Stunning trail. Excellent views on a relatively easy cycle trail suitable as a family ride. Recommend taking the jet boat as this just adds to the trip.

This awesome ride we did back to back with the Roxburgh Gorge Trail. Easy riding with lots of places to stop. If you are riding with kids, remember to get your trail passport as it gives them the extra point to interest to find the rubbing stations and learn a little about the trail along the way. Plenty of nice places to stop and picnic, and even go for a swim so don't forget your togs. A 10minute walk and must stop is Horseshoe bend bridge restoration . Pinders pond was also and great stop for a quick dip if its hot. The Clutha River has a lovely spot for swimming and lunch just before Beaumont. Its definately worth a few minutes extra ride up to the lonely graves, nice site and interesting story. The tunnel was also a highlight for our child. All in all a great ride. Logistically a bit of a problem to organise but we stayed at Millers flat and biked one day (55kms) from Alex to Millers Flat, and then day two (47kms) from Millers Flat to Lawrence and caught the Intercity bus back to Millers Flat.

Roxburgh Hydro Dam & Lookout

Reviewed By Zavija - Otago Region, New Zealand

The Roxburgh Hydro Electric Dam (10 mins drive towards Alexandra, off main highway) was built in the 1950s, it is worth parking up and walking across the dam top or driving above the dam to the lookout point (west side) for views and a great place to picnic. If your vehicle (not rentals) can handle it their is a second viewpoint 400m above the lower one, with amazing views, walks and cycling to be had. Take care of steep cliffs and bluffs, particularly on windy days and keep away from edge. Spectacular to see in flood-time when the floodgates are opened.

Bullock Track Roxburgh

Reviewed By Alen S - Ljubljana, Slovenia

The trail is not easy for 2 reasons. The one is that it is only going up and the other is that the trail is very exposed to the sun. So in summer go early in the morning or late in the evening. Take 3/4 hours for the whole hike (average pace). It offers nice views of the valley but it is nothing special.
