We read about this cider mill and decided to take a tour. We were happy with the choice. The place is set up to taste many products, cider, cheeses, apples and other condiments. After leaving there, I didn't need lunch. We enjoyed seeing the machines and learning about the production and history of the mill.

There is no fee for the monastery, but contributions are accepted and appreciated especially at the museum.
I was not sure what to expect and what I found was way more than I had hoped for!!
The monastery is a working monastery which was awesome to witness. We started in the bookstore while we waited for the museum to open at 2 PM. It was a slow day and I had the good fortune of conversing with a brother about The Russian Orthodox Church in and outside of Russia. We also talked about the Imperial Russian Family, their murder and their evolution to sainthood as well as the many icons. We then spent some time in the monastic cemetery. At 2 we headed over to the museum which, though small, was a stunning collection of religious artifacts some dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. In addition, there was information about selected Tsars, their reigns, and their relationships with the church. Not to be missed!!
We were then treated to a private tour of the baptismal fonts and bell tower, to include an in depth explanation of the icons. We then moved into the church, both upper and lower, where brother again explained in detail the church and the deliberate reasons for the specific icons, their specific placement and the evolution of the monastery and its on going roll.
The grounds are fairly compact and easy to navigate. There is, in fact, a map available. This is a must for anyone interested in history, religious history and an absolute for anyone interested in Russian history.
The pictures inside the church are poorly lit. While pictures are allowed, flashes are not.

This is a fun course much cheaper than the Leatherstocking. It's not as we'll maintained but looks over the lake and has some interesting features. Look for the lunch special, a great deal.

We took an afternoon boat cruise during the week, so it wasn't real busy. Captain Dave gave a great history lesson while pointing out sites along the river. We've been boating for over 45 years, but have never been through a lock before. It was a great experience, an included history of the Erie Canal, and a overall great afternoon. I would highly recommend this trip for anyone.

It's been a few years since I've been there. But the place gets better all the time. They keep things fresh by changing exhibits. And really engage young kids by giving them a questionnaire they have to fill out by looking at exhibits and then at the end they get a free pack of baseball cards and some gum. Great gift shop with reasonable price. Don't forget to see one of the halls newest inductee. Homer J. Simpson. No not kidding he is in the baseball in fill area and has a plaque like all the other players.

Friends of our had mentioned this cool place - it is about an hour from Oneonta, so we were leery...but wow, is it worth the drive!!! Just about 20 minutes north of Cooperstown, this would be a wonderful place for baseball camp families during downtime! Bring shoes that can handle water walking - the Otsquago Creek is clear as can be and you can swim and romp in the water - pretty cool!

American premiere of Donizetti's L'assedio di Calais. Opera drama about an incident from the Hundred Years' War (14th cent.) was updated to present day, any war-torn country. Staging, by Francesca Zambello, made perfect sense of the drama, and super-titles wisely omitted references to France or England (combatants of original libretto). Principals Leah Crocetto (Eleanora, sop.) and Aleks Romano (Aurelio, mezzo) were both excellent musically; Romano, singing a trouser role, was very credible as a young man. Adrian Timpau (Eustachio, bar.) possesses a beautiful instrument which he uses well but needs further artistic refinement. Zachary Owen (a spy, bass) held his own in his scene with other principals and chorus. Chaz'men Williams-Ali (ten.), Makoto Winkler (bar.), Joseph Leppek (bar.), and Carl DuPont (bass), all portraying burghers of Calais who, with Eustachio and Aurelio, volunteer to sacrifice their lives to save their fellow citizens, made good individual contributions to ensemble pieces and blended beautifully in the Act III prayer. (Williams-Ali, with the most solo lines to sing, also created the most individualized burgher.) The orchestra, which played well and with spirit, was very ably conducted by Joseph Colaner. The theatre is attractive and has good acoustics. I loved my first experience at this festival, and I'm certain to return.

We had the best time at this 9 hole course. Leaves were at their peek and the weather was warm. We will be back in the spring.

Pail Shop Winery is a new to the Cooperstown Beverage Trail and is welcomed addition. The winery is about a mile and a half away from Fly Creek Cider Mill and by all accounts rather small. But do not be misled, small in size does not define how large their service is. We were greeted by our server on the outside serving area, as that the interior was crowded. She was both informative and knowledgeable in their wines and was attentive and engaging during our stay. This place garners a lot of attention and visitors, which speaks volumes for their popularity. They may be new to the scene, but you wouldn't guess that as that they run a very efficient operation. The wines are above average in taste and with that being said they are very affordable in terms of prices. The inside tasting room is also the sales area and the decor is very appealing. We will definitely come back.

We stayed in Coopertown for a weekend for a wedding. We got to see a small part of this lake. It's beautiful and so peaceful. You can rent boats or eat at restaurants that have a view towards the lake to enjoy its beauty and Fall foliage.
