Gullfoss

Considered by many to be the country's most beautiful waterfall.

Reviewed By David C

Amazing views of the Waterfalls with various viewing platforms. Some with a lot of stairs but others you can walk to quite easily. Very windy so wrap up warm and keep hold of your camera as can quite easily be blown out of your hand. We visited at the end of March where snow was around the edges but the waterfall was in full flow. Free toilets in the main block don't use the ones where you have to pay. If you like the views you can easily pass a hour here if you don't mind the wind.

My husband and I are not experienced riders. We are not young either. But we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon at the farm. Our guide, Katie was wonderful. She was so knowledgeable about the horses and we found that we were so comfortable around these beautiful animals. We road around he property and it was so peaceful and serene. After our outdoor ride, we came inside to their cafe to enjoy a hot chocolate while watching some videos. A truly memorable outing!!

Me and my partner were picked up from Reykjavik on time by Andres and on our way to their office were given brief historical overview of the area that we passed. After a receiving a prepared packed lunch we visited Skógafoss, we had however took a detour to visit a nearby waterfall (I forget the name). At the first waterfall there were many tourists there who had arrived on big tourist buses, the tourists were sliding absolutely everywhere! Didn't look safe at all. Andres however had put Clampons on our feet and we overtook many of the tourists making them very envious of the fact we could walk without concern for slipping. Andres was very considerate having stopping at scenic places so that we could take photos - there were many things that day that a typical tourist company would not do. we stayed with Icelandic activities for 3 days having Snow Shoed, chilled out in a hot spring...very hot spring and had also went caving and cooked a leg of lamb that had been cooked in the ground- again all these trips were excellently prepared for with great consideration towards making sure that me and my partner were well prepared for the cold with all the appropriate equipment. The staff were all local knowing the area incredibly well and will gave options to consider if the weather is poor - can't highly recommend enough

We did a one hour ride with 4 teenagers and 2 adults. It was FANTASTIC and they provided some warm cloth to put under the helmets. Rain pants were available, but it was WARM AND SUNNY for us! Horses were wonderful and well trained, guide was very friendly and checked in with us to see how we were. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Go early, the sun rising was amazing along the river.

Our friend Thor works for Midgard adventure ! We met him while backpacking New Zealand ! While visiting Iceland he let us know about an open tour he had ! We joined the group and went into porsmork (Thórsmörk) with a huge 4wD truck! Driving on F roads through rivers ! We left the base camp around 10 am and got back at 6 pm. We got to make sandwiches at the base camp before leaving. We stopped at an old volcanic area with the tongue of a glacier ! The tunnel was so blue! And we stood on 7 year old dirt. We took a trail near the volcano huts , seen some caves ,
Old rock carvings and then took the steep windy trail up Valahnúkur mountain, felt like we were on top on the world ! On our way back we stopped at a few Waterfalls, and Thor showed us a site where game of thrones shot some footage but they haven’t decided to use it in the series yet. I’m not a game of thrones fan but there are a lot of scenes from there in Iceland . It was a beautiful day and without this wonderful tour we would have never seen this part of Iceland because we only rented a 2WD vehicle and we wouldn’t of made it past the rivers and big rocks, it says right on the dash of the car “NO F ROADS (highlands )”. There was 7 people on the tour included the tour guide Thor.

Bruarfoss Waterfall is hard to find, but worth the hunt. Not located on many maps or in travel books, use google maps or a god device to try and track down how best to reach. There is a small trail, and a few fences to climb over. You do have to park on public streets, so be kind and don’t block anyone’s driveway or cause a traffic issue.

Had lots of fun on a cold day in February. Laxnes provided warm clothing, a helmet and an appropriate horse for you.,They gave us some instructions, let us into the stables to visit the horses. Our two hour ride was out in the beautiful country side. Unlike so many rides, we did more gaits than just walking. The warm drinks and snacks at the end hit the spot.

Glymur

Reviewed By Leah G - Columbus, Ohio

This hike is not for the faint of heart. When in Iceland, I was using the blog/website "Guide to Iceland" as a reference for all of our hikes, and I quickly realized that she and I did not share the same opinion of what was an easy or difficult hike. This hike was definitely difficult. Obviously it is all uphill (I'm in no way complaining about that!), but aside from that, it is a scary/dangerous uphill trail. The "path's" are extremely narrow, right off the side of a cliff, and a lot of times you are using ropes on pegs that are staked into the mountainside to help yourself climb up slippery wet rocks. I am thankful for whoever put these there as it would be nearly impossible to do the hike without these. I also recommend water shoes or extremely waterproof boots for the many river crossings you will make. TENNIS SHOES ARE NOT ENOUGH! It is also worth noting that there are no restrooms near by. I think the round trip hike took us just under 3 hours.
