Turtle Sanctuary Beach

Reviewed By OS_HK1 - Hong Kong, China

Traveled in July with my family of 5. We were there to experience the Perhentian's world renowned diving and weren't disappointed. Some really great things to see but the best underwater scenery (IMO) was left to the snorkel excursion where we were taken to some popular sites. The coral at these sites was some of the best I have ever seen - probably because it was beyond the reach of most snorkellers depth but still very clearly seen from the surface.
The rooms at the resort are comfortable and functional and the cabins/rooms are pretty much right next to the beach (or within a few strides). The resort runs an independent turtle conservation program due to the amount of turtles that lay eggs on the beach. Although they have to return the large propertion of eggs to the Govt they are allowed to keep a small amount for incubating and eventual release back into the sea. It's a well run operation and appears to feature on some UK-based adventure programs as an option for teenagers/school kids to experience. This is great for the kids and raising awareness but beware that it means you may have to share the resort with a large group of school kids who are - in the main - well-behaved if a little excitable :-)

The beach is lovely. Fine white sand with great snorkelling right there with some local friendly black tip reef sharks, plus a floating pontoon a couple of hundred metres out that is great fun to swim to.
In all an enjoyable time and a pleasant stay.

Definitely a Padi Dive Shop you must go diving
Especially Ali / Charlotte / Jay and Martin are great

Pro Diver`s World

Reviewed By Kim M - Vancouver

We were a group of non-divers, certified divers and divers taking their certification. The Pro Diver's World next to the Coral View Resort on Pulau Pertentian Besar was an excellent choice for us. They could easily accommodate our group and provided the confined water dives right on the beach just in front of the dive shop. This was great since the divers could walk over when they were going out or attending a session and didn't need to commit to being away from the resort the entire day. This was much more relaxed and a marked contrast to when one of our daughters had taken her certification in Thailand and was picked up at 7 am and didn't return until 6 pm. The divers could easily meet up with the snorkellers for lunch, usually just down the beach at Mama's. This is the only dive shop on Besar that is based on Besar and does all their diving from here. No long boat rides to get to the dive sites!
Stan was an excellent instructor and went out of his way to help on of the divers who was having trouble with her ears. He spent extra time with her one on one to help her. Karl provided us with lots of great information, booked at taxi for us for the trip from Kuala Besut back to the airport at KB so we avoided the taxi frenzy when the boat arrived at the pier. Luckily we were also able to contact Karl to find an mail back an iPhone forgotten at the resort. Thanks again Karl.

These really are beautiful Islands. The Beaches are stunning, so peaceful. Snorkelling and swimming is the most energetic things we did for our 8 day break here. Worth the journey.

Teluk Keke

KK.Beach is the southwestern side of Perhentian Besar. There are several beautiful coral Gardens in front of here, so you can enjoy snorkeling here all day. The useful information for here is being able to get here without boat. The way to here is simple. You can get here with walking along the beach from Big Beach (in front of Tuna Bay) to south.

Teluk Keke was the 1st stop on our 1/2 day snorkelling trip (organised through the Barat resort). It was a great place to start, with one of our party still building confidence in the water.
Very scenic, sheltered bay with lots of different corals & a variety of fish (clown fish, parrot fish, needle fish). Great visibility when we visited.
Verdict- a good place to start your Perhentian Besar snorkelling trip.

We ended up staying and diving with these guys for nearly a month. We did our open water and then followed by our advanced course, coupled with dozens of 'fun dives'. They are great people with a perfect location, knowledge of the dives sites, ocean and creatures alike. we ended up staying so long and if our planner would have allowed it we would have never left! All the gear they use is perfect and the instructors (ours was sandra) and the dive master (nick at the time although i hear he now has his instructors too!) were so professional and made us feel incredibly safe and at home in the underwater environment. i really couldn't recommend the dive shop and the instructors/masters highly enough. an amazing experience and few weeks we will never forget. love you guys!!!!

Watercolours Dive Centre

A dive centre on Perhentian Besar offering PADI courses, dive and snorkel trips.

Reviewed By Cape068 - Chiang Mai, Thailand

This is our 4th trip to Perhentian and our fourth (4) time diving with Watercolors Dive Center. We only found out that Anke and her team left after we arrived since I was not aware that Andrew was the new manager. Anyway, it did not matter a bit since Andrew and his team run the dive center very well and professional. I even found that some of the equipment was newer and in better shape and some of the organisational procedures are more up to date. We are experienced divers with more than 200 dives and I have to say that diving with all dive masters and instructors was fun. They were all very helpful and made our diving trip a success. Also the underwater world is still as beautiful as 12 years ago when we came the first time. Keep it up Andrew and the team. You do an excellent job. Well done !
The only negative is that Watercolors is still pairing up with the Paradise Resort and Restaurant which is terrible. See my other review under Paradise Resort and Restaurant. When this was run by Anke and her team it was a MUST, not it's a MUST avoid ! Andrew, pair up with somebody else since it's upsetting some of the divers I talked to.

Urbanisland Divers

Reviewed By Vignes C - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Excellent 4D3N open water certification program with my instructor, Kamil who was not only highly-skilled and patient, but also very friendly and approachable. It was more like learning and diving with a friend, which made the experience very comfortable. Equipment- all good, except for the slightly old wet suits (but still very much functional). Tanks are only used if they are full, and safety is taken seriously as well. Very affordable as well. Might not be the biggest dive place around, but definitely an excellent one in Perhentian Besar.
