The 10 Best Things to Do in Procida Island, Italy

April 9, 2018 Merry Kessler

Procida is the quintessential Mediterranean paradise, an absolute vision of colorful harborside homes and picturesque piazzas. Lose yourself in colorful Terra Murata, a walled medieval town that’s perched staunchly on a hill. There you’ll find the 15th-century Palazzo D’Avalos and Abbazia di San Michele, an 11th-century Benedictine abbey. After your tour, scoot down the steps to charming Corricella, then unwind with a poolside cocktail at the magical Maresia Solarium.

This is probably the most picturesque site in all of Italy, as you look down upon this port. The colorful buildings along with the boats in the harbor provide the scenery along with the natural landscape. Several restaurants provide great places to eat with a super view.

The island of Procida has many scenic places and a lot of them are concentrated in the area. Aside from the view of Corricella, there are a multitude of other photo opportunities including the former prison area and the Abbazia Di S Michele Arcangelo (church).

This was an interesting visit on our tour of the Terra Murata area of Procida. Learning the history of the church was interesting and seeing the interior decor was worthwhile. It doesn't approximate the magnitude of most churches in Italy but it's beauty is still there on a smaller scale.

Museo Casa di Graziella

The staff is certainly competent and highly motivated. That and the splendid views were the best part of the visit. This is an unusual initiative, worthy of support. As for a museum, it is not very impressive. However, I may be biased by the outstanding museums in Naples. The tour was in Italian , so I do not know if other languages are available. This is a good destination for a brisk walk up the hill to get here from other parts of the island. The incline is challenging so we rode the C1/C2 bus. Get off where it turns around to go back down. You can take the tour of the museum and then take you time walking back down and enjoy the scenery.
They did not allow photos. Why, I do not know.

We do not recommend this beach. And especially not Lido Vivara. Noisy, crowded and expensive chairs. We came from Ischia and the Beaches on Procida is far worse, more expensive and chaotic. We paid 24 euro for to chairs (second row right next to the public beach) and the place did not even have working showers. On Ischia we paid 15 euro for top service and much more spacious beach. The waters are shallow and good for kids I guess, but I would never bring kids or any one else here if I had options.

After a short walk past a cemetery we arrived here, where we spent an enjoyable afternoon.
There was only one place for food, with sparse (but tasty) offerings and nothing nearby outside. I wished there was a full scale restaurant there or at least nearby.
The sand was dark. You had to cross over a line of rocks in the water to get to the sandy part.

Good beach service. Located on one of the longest beach of the island. Pretty windy in the afternoon, it is has a nice Terrace on the seafront from where you may admire a lovely sunset. Good pizzeria. Good beach bar. Average restaurant.

Spiaggia Chiaia

It is very sad that it looks as if this beach is being used as a garbage dump. There was trash everywhere in the sand including broken glass pieces large and small. As well as garbage, plastic pieces brought in by the sea were trapped all along the sea wall and a large tunnel along the sea wall was full of disgusting garbage that looked like it had been there for a long, long time. This beach needs a very good clean up. I was afraid to go into the water here or even place my towel into the trashy sand. If the people who ran the small concession stand there would clean the beach up, they would get a lot more business. The fact that the island can even have a beach that looks like this one is shameful. I left.
