Paulilles Recreational Park

Visited on a very hot weekday late morning in June. Easy free parking in the dedicated parking area on the opposite side of the road, and the site is accessed in a few minutes through a short tunnel. We stayed about an hour, wandering through the shady pathways. Most people were laden with beach equipment as they hurried down to the beach cove which had plenty of room for everyone at that stage. There were also quite a few school parties, noisy, pushing and shouting, which did spoil a few of the quieter moments. We enjoyed looking at the old, refurbished ex-dynamite factory buildings in one corner of the site, especially the local info and photos of the flora and fauna of the wider area. The old water tower was an easy climb (parties of pre-school children managed it!) and had lovely views of the surrounding hills and also the shoreline. There were other spots to find like the old iron bridge that used to be part of a building and is now a viewing point down to the open info bays. A lovely big shady decked area just behind the beach with Seating and tables was a perfect spot for a picnic, There were lots of birds to see and exotic Gardens to explore. The main building houses and information display of the site. The site map mentioned a place to have refreshments there too, but as we passed there was a school party waiting on the walkway so we didn't stop to look. A walking trail passes through across the top of the beach if you decide to go further. Overall it is a lovely site, not as big as I was expecting, but beautifully maintained and it is free!

We unfortunately arrive on their lunch time (12-2) but lovely staff offered to give us a quick tour. One hour later we were still chatting and they did not hurry us. Fascinating story in English of the way vinegar is fermented and the different stages of maturing.
Products are for sale and beautifully presented.
Not knowing anything about vinegar making I found this organic approach to making the finest quality vinegar well worth listening to.
Road to estate is well for the main road so a car is essential.

We found this place just 14 days ago. This former site of dynamite factory is now a sort of a natural reservation with a small exhibition about the life in the factory. There is also o place where they repair old ships. And there is a nice beach where you can spend a day sunbathing and swimming. We sat at the small café, where they prepare a good coffee and you can buy there a local biscuites - rousquilles (which are very sweet, but I love it). Parking is free, but come soon in the morning if you want to find a place to park.
