Bassi Falls

Reviewed By KMTW - Folsom, United States

We visited this waterfall on a weekday because we heard it gets very crowded on weekends. It is nice day trip from the Sacramento area and it’s actually located closer to Kyburz, which is a little further than Pollock Pines. We arrived at 10 a.m. and parked at Millionaire’s Camp, where the parking was almost full. There are 2 waterfalls on this hike, the first being a wider but lower falls, then the higher falls. It is 2 miles one way to the 2nd falls. You can also park at the Towering Rocks Trailhead, which makes your hike shorter (1.3 miles to the 2nd waterfall), but from what I have heard, you do need a 4x4 to get to that parking area. Although the parking area was pretty full, we didn’t run into a lot of people on the trail and once we arrived at the falls, there is plenty of room for people to spread out and social distance. The entire trail was beautiful, going through the forest in some areas and right by Bassi Creek in others. It’s a very easy hike, not strenuous at all and we saw people of all ages doing this hike. It’s one of the most scenic, easy and accessible trails in this area. I highly recommend it and we will definitely be visiting again!

In the heart of the Sierra Foothills, Sly Park is an amazing recreation area. State of California maintained, there is a fee to enter, but it is worth it. Asphalt paths make gentle hikes easier. Campgrounds look nice and we'll taken care of. The highlight was watching a Bald Eagle pair soaring over the lake fishing!
