This museum was for many year one of the best in the United States. Possibly because of a remodelling program, many of the aircraft exhibits, some of which are unique, are not now accessible to visitors. This reduces the quality of the museum's appeal and interest.

Gen. James A. Van Fleet State Trail

Reviewed By travelingrm - New Jersey

This is an exciting and interesting place to visit in Florida. We saw alligator, deer, otter, heron, cows and endangered gopher tortoise. It is an easy ride with some shade and pretty flowers in bloom. There are no lines of people!

Instead of waiting in line at Disney, rent or bring bikes here and the ride will last as long as you want. There are restrooms and picnic tables. Then go home, research James Van Fleet and be proud to live in America. President Harry Truman called Van Fleet. " our greatest general".

Lake Myrtle Sports Park

Reviewed By Hoochiesmama - Fort Myers, Florida

The sports complex is huge with beautifully kempt fields.
We were there for soccer---this is where the offices/head of FYSA are. The groundskeepers do a wonderful job at keeping the grass short, without potholes and divots, and nice and green. Especially since we are in dry season in Florida.
The fields are relatively well marked.....as you drive through the expansive parking lots.
Washrooms were clean(considering hundreds of soccer players with cleats...and their family's visit them daily. There was toilet paper available!!(always a bone of contention going to sports complexes)
The parking is very accessible. Minimal shade for the parents--but we are well attuned to bringing chairs and umbrellas.
The concession stand was not open for the early morning games....coffee would have been nice.
All in all---a very nice facility. Well done FYSA. Nice to not have to travel to multiple parks/locations for events.

The Stable Home Decor

Reviewed By BentleyBoy - Central Florida, Florida

This one facility is the main (and close to the only) reason to visit this Fair city of Lake Alfred (emphasis on "fair"). It encompasses a Home Decor Shop/ Outdoor Decor Shop. cute Restaurant, Stained Glass Shop and Antique Store called 'The Barn'~ all in One. Every thing here is First Cabin and if you're into fashionable decorating for our home or apartment -it's The Bomb (an explosion of gift ideas). Thousand's of choices. The real Trump(sorry) is the Antique Store which I tried to create a listing here on TA. Great value on English Antiques and more. Good news too.... is if you time it right, you can also have lunch in the "Back Porch" Restaurant. Beautifully decorated with super reasonably priced lunches.
We only found ONE other antique store in this Burg and if it wasn't for this set of stores, we think we would have wasted a 3 hr round-trip drive. 'The Stable' with it's Outdoor Shops, 'The Barn', 'The Stained Glass Studio Room' and 'The Back Porch' made it worthwhile. Enjoy....

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our balloon ride! From set-up to landing this is a truly unique experience. The pilot and crew were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We had spectacular views of the Tampa area with educational commentary about the area from our pilot. It was so peaceful floating through the air. What made it even better was watching the other balloons take off and float along with us! I highly recommend it!

Harvest Holler Corn Maze

Reviewed By Katherine F

This is an autumn attraction. In 2017 the farm/corn maze was open September 22nd through November 12th. It is in between Tampa and Orlando (and is about a 45-minute drive from either direction). If you are a local or happen to be in town when it's open, you should go.

The corn maze is huge and full of pathways. We went in during the day and then again when it was completely dark. It was a blast. There are other corn maze farms in this area, but many charge you to get in and then charge you for everything you do. At Harvest Holler you pay $8 per child, $10 per adult at "the door" and then have unlimited access to the following: the corn maze; hay rides; "cow train" rides; slides; rope swings; tire swings; hay forts to climb; corn cribs (for kids to play in); a mini golf course set up around old farm equipment; cornhole (a bean bag toss game, for those who aren't from around here); horses, pigs, chickens, cows (and free food to feed the horses and cows). There is also a pumpkin patch (but, obviously, you would buy a pumpkin separately.) And they serve tasty and inexpensive food, such as corn on the cob, burgers, fries, etc.

Obviously this is a super family friendly environment, but I would totally go with an adult group as well. The corn maze alone was worth the cost of entry. And most of the activities are fun for adults (I did literally everything but roll around in the corn crib bathtubs with the kids, lol.).

The other thing to look out for when comparing corn maze farms is that some of them remain open even if the corn has not grown tall enough (a tall man should not be able to see over the top of a decent corn maze) or was completely wiped out (as was the case this year for many of them, due to the hurricane). The websites will tell you whether there is a corn maze at the moment, and there are pictures that show you how tall the maze actually is. And the websites also let you know what is included in the entry price and what is not.

We stayed five hours and only left when it closed, but next year we will go earlier and stay longer. We did several Halloween-related outings this year, but this was definitely my favorite.
