We arrived to Costa Rica poorly prepared for activities and the ones offered at the Westin were way overpriced and nothing special. Talking to a nice couple at the pool, they starting raving about a guide named Andrei. So we called him up, met him at the beach so he can get to know us, which sounded a little odd, but ok we did and so glad that happened! Andrei asked all the right questions to find out everything we liked and disliked and planned a week full of fun. Not only was it planned perfectly, he was kind enough to provide the tours himself!. We were able to experience a local bull riding event which was great, zip lining, horseback riding and much much more.
My family and i have been fortunate enough to travel many, many countries and taken many tours as well and can clearly say, Andrei has been the best.
You will find Andrei very personable and i consider him a personal friend now!
I have not mentioned one of his drivers/tour guides Raphael who is just as good and friendly as well :) Thank you so much Andrei and Raphael for the amazing time you shown us in such a beautiful country.

This beach differs from others we visited around Playa Flamingo and Tamarindo in that the sand is not hard, packed sand but rather comprised of tiny, broken sea shells. There's a lot going on on this beach, particularly since it fronts the Westin hotel. We drove in from the Brasilito side. You can either park in front of the shops in Brasilito and walk along the beach or you can drive on beach and over a small hill to get to playa conchal. Kids enjoyed riding wave runners (price was comprable to any other rentals everywhere else in the world we've been. Which is to say, way overpriced. $100 an hour/$60 per half hour). Massages are offered at a shockingly low price ($20 per hour/$10 per half hour. Or if you are led there by a parking attendant you'll pay an extra $5 which is the comission the masseuse has to pay the attendant). I presume these are not licensed, professionaly trained people. But, if you have no medical conditions, it was a perfectly enjoyable and relaxing massage. Being a busy beach, you will be constantly pestered by people selling drinks (none sold beer or other alcohol, so bring your own), souvenirs, massages, boat rides, ATV rides, horseback rides, etc. If you're looking for serenity, look elsewhere.
re: parking. first time we parked in Brasilito and paid $5 US to a local to "watch" the car. next time we drove all the way to the beach. Paid 2000 colones to park there.

We've been to many of the Beaches in Guanacaste and this is our favorite. It was recommended by a local who told us about it...it's a hidden gem that is completely unspoiled. It is remote, but not too far off the beaten path and the drive is not bad. There are no facilities maintained by the govt., no boats, and you literally drive up to where you want to put out your towels or chairs. This was truly a hidden beach in the jungle. Gorgeous bright blue water, soft sand and stunning scenery.
We use Waze all through CR and some people also refer to this beach as "Playa Zapotillal." It's not hard to find and you'll love it.

Arenas Blancas Tour was recommended by our hotel. My wife, son and I chose the 2 hour horseback riding tour along the beach in Brasilito. We were picked up and dropped off by Arenas Blancas at a pre-arranged location. Once we arrived, we signed a short waiver and were taken to our horses. Our guide, David, was incredible. He took his time explaining (we speak Spanish) about the area, the various Beaches we visited and answered all our questions. There were several photo ops and the views were amazing. Highly recommend the horseback riding tour along the beach, but they also offer ATV guided tours which looked like fun. At the end, they offered us chilled watermelon and bottled water. A nice touch. Mr. Arenas was on the premises and oversaw the activities. You will have a great time!

During our vacation in Costa Rica, our family chartered a day sail on "Surfari", a Morgan 42 yacht. Captain Brad, the skipper of the yacht, demonstrated excellent sailing skills while exp
laining how to manage sailing., "Surfari" is an older, sturdy vessel, well-equipped for all occurrences when under sail.
We cruised in Bahia Portrero, a beautiful, scenic part of Costa Rica. Captain Brad identified the areas we were passing, demonstrating knowledge of the waters he sails. Our objective was for the family to snorkel on a lovely beach. Captain Brad anchored near the beach, and supplied us with equipment for the swim.
While the family swam ashore, Captain Brad and his crew prepared a delightful repast. A generous bowl of fresh pineapple, beverages, and wonderful beef tacos were devoured.
Our cruise ended with a magnificent sunset, as we returned to "Surfari's" home port. Every need of our family was anticipated and graciously delivered.
I would recommend, without reservation, a cruise with Captain Brad on "Surfari".

Great experience! Beautiful beach ride, fun to do during La Semana when so many Tico’s take advantage of the Beaches. Jorge was wonderful, horses are well cared for and everything was as promised. We had a great experience, if we had more time would do the jungle ride. Loved it.

Beautiful view. Great golf. Excellent service! Highly recommend it. The service was excellent. They ran a special in the afternoon, if you played after 4, the price dropped to 60 dollars. I could have played everyday. I brought my own clubs, but you can rent their clubs for about $30.

My family just returned from a 10 day vacation in Costa Rica. We spent the majority of our time on the coast in Guanacaste near Tamarindo.
I highly recommend that anyone visiting Costa Rica get in contact with Chris and book adventures through Aloticos. My family accidentally found Chris, and we are so glad we did! He helped us book a boat tour and we also took surf lessons from him.
We took a sunset cruise on a catamaran that went out from Flamingo. The crew was amazing and so friendly. Drinks were provided as well as a delicious meal. We went snorkeling for an hour or two in a beautiful spot (I do not even like snorkeling and I’m glad I did it). Our guide caught a puffer fish, clown shrimp, and star fish for us to see up close. Gear was provided. On the way back, we saw dolphins swimming alongside our boat and watched the sunset. It was a perfect afternoon and one of the highlights of our trip for our entire family.
We decided to give Surfing a try. Our first lesson in Tamarindo was so awesome we ended up doing a second lesson the following week. Chris is a great instructor - far superior to a previous instructor I had in Hawaii. He is very hands on and attentive. He really knows the water and provides excellent instruction. You can tell he truly enjoys what he does and that he wants you to succeed. He encourages you to have fun regardless of whether or not you are catching the waves.
Chris is incredibly professional, punctual, and reliable. He is quick to respond to messages. He is very knowledgeable and eager to help. He even offered us a brief history lesson explaining a holiday that occurred while we were there. I never felt like he was trying to sell us stuff. Rather, I felt like he was a friend who genuinely wanted to help us make the most of our trip. I cannot recommend Chris enough. He will go out of his way to do what he can to make sure you have the best vacation of your life!
