Curtea Domneasca

It was very quiet in Piatra Neamt the day we explored the square where the Romanian Orthodox Church of Nativity of St. John the Baptist is located. This church was established by Stephen the Great of Moldovia and constructed in 1497-1498. The impressive bell tower was built in 1499. It is a nice historical area to look around and relax.

This is a small zoo in a rural location near Neamt in Romania.
The main attraction is the Zimbri that are described as European bison. Apparently this is one of only two locations that are trying to breed this species before it becomes extinct.
Other animals in the zoo include peacocks, deer and a brown bear.

Lake Cuejdel

Reviewed By HoriaI - Piatra Neamt, Romania

Cuejdel is a lake near Piatra Neamt in north-eastern area of Romania. It is currently the largest natural dam lake in the country & probably in Europe. I say probably because since it was formed in the late 70's it has been growing constantly. It started from a land slide near the place communists were cutting down trees and making a transportation road for the lumber.
There is a swamp forming too in the south-eastern end of the lake.
The lake is something like you never seen. The trunks of the trees seem like they rise by themselves from the water. At night it's a mystic atmosphere with the cross like trunks and clear sky.
You can almost feel the lake growing & nature moving around you if you are in a more remote area of the lake.
The road by car is pretty harsh but it just adds to the joy of arriving there.
Come and visit it, there aren't many places you can find nature changing before your eyes.

Sinagoga De Lemn Baal Sem Tov

Reviewed By stoneJerusalem - Jerusalem

Wooden Synagogue from Piatra Neamt was built in 1766 and it is a monument with a long and controversial history, being testimony of numerous Jewish communities that lived in this city since the Middle Ages.
Synagogue of Piatra Neamt is constructed of thick beams coated both inside and outside. Because of the high stone foundation, entering the building is done using the descending staircase. The interior is presented as a closed two-story gallery to the north and one floor on the west side, where women’s Synagogue is; in the south there is another smaller gallery for children.
The Baal Shem Tov Synagogue is the only wooden Synagogue in Eastern Europe, which was kept intact with all its symbolic , religious, legendary and architectural value.
