Panagia Glykofilousa

Reviewed By Sean H - Newport, United Kingdom

We intended to visit Panagia Glykofilousa when we visited Petra, but what we didn't expect was how peaceful and tranquil the church is.
We climbed the famous steps (114) to the top and found an absolute gem of a church in its own right. It is serene and peaceful and beautifully decorated with some much older icons in some parts.
As a photo vantage point in Petra it also can be beaten .

Steve's Music Bar

Reviewed By peter_magnum - Blackburn, United Kingdom

When you find Sarandos and the Omega bar, ( two of the best restaurants on Anexos,). with the Omega bar on your right, walk about 80yds and turn right, 40 yds on your left is Steves Bar. The best collection of music I have ever heard in years. Very clean with large cheap measures.Steve is a great host and the bar is quaint and spotless. Of all the places to go in Anaxos, don't miss this one. Closes between 11 and midnight depending on business. Opens about 5ish. I promise that you'll make it an evening event for the remainder of your hols, and talk about it for weeks after your holiday has finished. Hope 2017 is good for him. Great memories.

Moni Limonos

little bit northwest of Kalloni there is this huge monastry, with a lot of small chapels outside. Inside there is a totally different world, There are lots or various trees in the yard which I guess were brought there throughout the years and centuries.
Wonderful paintings and all in all a good location to be.

The Commander of Lesvos Monastery

Reviewed By stevephotiou - Padua, Italy

Incomparable atmosphere! It makes you feel close to God. Very introspective location, the Archangel Michael is considered the Protector of Lesvos: ask about the story of the metallic shoes (similar to the story of Talos in Crete), and the Holy Icon's story (very touching). The fighter nearby the entrance has a rationale: The Archangel is the Hellenic Airforce's protector.

Jalouse Beach Bar

Reviewed By philopj69

This bar on appearance is smart and stylish however it is geared only for the local youths who frequent it for a few hours and make a nuisance of themselves with the revving of bikes and constant backwards and forwards of traffic in this narrow stretch of seafront.
The music is loud and relentless causing a disturbance to the nearby restaurants and accommodation. This bar is also now offering apartments to rent but if you are considering staying here you will only manage to get any peace outside of bar hours so would advice families to avoid.
This bar is out of place in this quiet holiday resort and is not geared towards tourist more for the local teenagers as a drop in centre and where the owners are attempting to turn Anaxos into Kavos.

Vareltzidaina's House

This is a 17th century Turkish merchant's house, recently renovated and now open to the public. Petra's #2 sight after the church

Reviewed By Mxfive - Dumfries, Scotland

This old merchants house was worth a visit to get a glimpse of a bye gone era. Entry was just a couple of euros and there was plenty of information available to help you understand what you were looking at.
