Paraty was built by Portuguese to transport the gold from Minas Gerais to Rio. Its colonial buildings and cobblestone streets made from this tiny town a great touristic site. One weekend will be enough to roam around the city and to visit the nearby Beaches of Trindade.

I spent few days in this area with my friend on the boat. Nice, clean and warm Atlantic ocean, jungle, Mountains .. and no people everywhere. Beutiful experience and perfect nature close to Rio de Janeiro.

The beach is nice, the water is warm and you feel like you could be anywhere in the Caribbean and as far away as you can from the hustle and bustle of the big cities of Sao Paulo and Rio. I must say that the day I went, the water was not clean or clear. I don't know if this is the norm but you could see a bit of rubbish and dirt, so although I would recommend this when in Paraty or surrounds, don't expect crystal clear waters full of fish like the Great Barrier of Reef or the pacific Islands.

The pão de acucar is reachable in two ways. Either by boat from Paraty itself (depending on the boat between 25 minutes and 2 hours) or from Paraty Mirim (45 minutes by bus from Paraty bus station). The hike is around 50-60 minutes and well worth the effort. Amazing views over the whole bay of Paraty up to Ilha Grande.

From the end of Sono beach you have to scamper up a pretty steep cliff to reach this beach. However, once you're at the top the rest of the way is pretty easy and the entire hike from Sono beach takes only about 25 minutes. The beach is completely isolated with no buildings; just you, some rocks, tropical trees, whatever wildlife is around and sugar-soft sand.
My wife and I went in August 2014 (their low season) and were the only ones there; later joined by 3 chill hippies. Pretty much the peaceful tropical good time place you'll think of when you're stressed at work and need a calm memory.

The Baía de Paraty (Bay of Paraty) I believe is the most beautiful in the city. But the water is very cold, even in the heat. With gentle water and few waves, it is an ideal place to bathe with children and play a lot.

The beach is absolutely charming but getting there is not particularly easy. One needs to choose between a boat ride, which isnt very expensive or a good 3 km hike.
The beach is beautiful but the waves are giant so unless you love Surfing it's not really your place.

This island is accessible by boats from the main roads out of Paraty. The island has just been sold to a private individual so will not be available for visitors for long. Incredible warm sea off th coast of this island, we were joined by an Argentinian family from their yacht and a few other people eat and drank from the lady who had been Lviving on the island for the last 20 years. Sadly, she will go when the island is completely vacated too.

Beautiful place, warm and clean waters. I recommend arriving before 10 am to avoid the traffic, since the access road is narrow, steep and full of curves.

I came here on a boat trip and swam to the shore. I didn't stay here long but it was beautiful. There is a cafe at the end of the beach with tables and chairs but I didn't buy anything there as I was on a boat trip.
