Carlson Vineyards Winery & Tasting Room

While we take the art of winemaking seriously, we like to have fun too. A favorite since 1988, we're known for pioneering Colorado wines made from local grapes and fruit, with names like Laughing Cat, Cougar Run, and a Dinosaur series. Carlson Vineyards, a small farm winery, produces premium wines in the heart of Colorado wine country above the town of Palisade, at an altitude of 4700 ft. Grape wines: Riesling, T-Red (Lemberger), Sweet Baby Red, Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer. Fruit wines: Cherry, Plum, Peach and Pearadactyl (Pear-Apple). Relax and savor the scenic vistas of the Grand Valley and Colorado River too. Located on Palisade's Fruit & Wine Scenic Byway around mile marker 6 on East Orchard Mesa.

The best place to relax and visit while having a glass of wine. After you're done tasting, you can buy a glass (or bottle) and enjoy it in their backyard covered by trees (which is a good thing because it was well into the 90s), lush grass, and plenty of comfortable seating. The owners were very pleasant, and didn't make you feel rushed to make a purchase just to send you on your way.

What great location, tasting and service! We went here with a pretty large group and was lucky enough to score a huge table and our service was not lacking despite our crowd. I believe it was during the week though which always helps in this town. the gentleman who helped us was patient regarding the fact that not everyone in our group was as familiar with wines as some of us. The scenery is beautiful and it was really nice being in an outside area but feeling like I was on a friend's back patio. Their wine was well priced for the purchase and their reds are delicious! Full-bodied and a wonderful aftertaste without being bitter at all.

Meadery of the Rockies

As Colorado's first and most bee-loved meadery, Meadery of the Rockies makes an array of honey based wines. We start with pure, raw orange blossom honey, then ferment it. We also craft fruit wine and honey wine blends. They're blends of mead and fruit wines such as blackberry, strawberry and peach. We also carry fortified dessert wines. Mead is one of the oldest alcoholic drinks known to man and has a rich and interesting history. Stop by our tasting room in the heart of Palisade, CO to learn more and have complementary tastes of our mead.

Maison la Belle Vie Winery

Maison La Belle Vie (French for "House of Beautiful Life") was planted 8 years ago. The first vintages from the estate winery, were introduced in 2006 and included Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Rosé and Muscat; a dessert wine that is traditional in the Loire Valley in France. Maison la Belle Vie has now added 3 Reserve wines, a Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot all aged for 4 years as well as the famous Vin de Peche; a Muscat, fortified with peaches - a recipe from John's family that has been handed down through the generations since the late 1800's. A new addition is a hand crafted walnut liquor that is simply delicious.

Our 2nd year in a row to visit the Grand Junction area. We needed some wine for evening sunset watching. We stopped here to see what they offered. Not into to fruit wines, we were looking for blends or traditional grape varietals. We tasted a few and settled on a blend. Nice friendly staff, lots of food and wine samples.

We stopped at this distillery by mistake because we were actually looking for the brewery down the street; shame on us. The only friendly service we received was from the guy at the door asking for ID's. The bartender was more worried about listening in to a conversation her fellow bartender was having with someone else then to even acknowledge us. Now wouldn't you think if it's your own distillery, you would want to at least talk about your product? Not her. Basically what would you like and have a nice day. The place was packed with very little seating. There was more places to sit outside but when the temperature is in the 90s and there is no shade and the service was bad and the drinks were marginal at best....did I forget to mention we stopped in here by mistake.

The complementary tasting walks you through about 6 different wines with instructions on how best to taste a white vs. red. what certain wine terms mean, and what fruit notes to look for. Beautiful building. Computers were down but staff worked quickly to process customers. Friendly hostess for wine tasting. Large selection. However, glasses were not rinsed between tastes, a minor infraction, but makes a difference. Tasty wines. Our favorite was Sweet Red Wine 2015. Will make a lovely fruit Sangria.
