Wright Museum of WWII

This Museum's purpose is to educate, entertain and inspire visitors with the story of WWII-era Americans often called "the greatest generation". The Wright Museum is open seasonally from May 1st to October 31st.

My husband and I visited the Wright Museum of World War II in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire on Thursday, September 28th, while on vacation. This museum is organized quite well and provides comprehensive information on multiple aspects of the various wars, with primary focus on World War II, and has a very impressive collection of items. The Special Exhibit is very well done and includes enlarged photographs of soldiers from the Civil War, Spanish American War, both World I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War as well as the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Home Front Gallery provides great details with many items on display depicting how ordinary Americans lived and worked during World War II. This gallery is quite nice with very good supporting documentation.

The Time Tunnel is excellent, having a separate room with many items on display for each year of World War II, from 1939 – 1945. Each year has an outline of the events that occurred during the year, including in the World and in the USA as well as songs, movies, books, firsts and what was on stage. There is also multiple audio video selections for each year, describing what was going on in Europe, the Pacific, on the Home Front, as well as the movies and music associated with the year. The audio video selections include the special events from each year, such as the World’s Fair, what was happening in Britain and Midway through the war, as well as Pearl Harbor, D-Day and the Homecoming.

The Military Gallery, which is on both the 1st floor as well as on the mezzanine, includes an impressive collection of tanks, motorcycles, jeeps, a plane as well as clothing, uniforms, gear, equipment, weaponry, model ships, paintings, posters and much more.

The Special Exhibit in the Art Gallery, which is accompanied by a very good film in the theater downstairs, includes enlarged photographs from each war, from the Civil War to the War in Iraq, with each photograph telling a story, reflecting the intensity of the emotion of the American soldier. The photographs from the wars are displayed in chronological order, within each war, starting with a very informative write-up outlining the timeframe of the war and depicting how the war started and other important details about the particular war. This exhibit is very well done.

This museum has much to offer, a lot more than what is described above and even includes a Soda Fountain Exhibit and a Victory Garden. The museum is highly recommended, being very enjoyable, educational, informative and interesting.

I had last been here about 18 years ago, and the house has had quite a makeover. Fascinating to stroll around. There are lovely views, but the leaves were late this year. If you want to stroll to the waterfall, do it on the way up as there is a different road down. The entrance fee is quite pricy.

For a fun afternoon, we drove from Kennebunkport ME to Ossippee NH especially to use a Groupon ($20) which we purchased for a tour and tasting. I didn't check, but they only have tours on Saturday. We didn't mind as we have toured wineries, distilleries and meaderies before so we were looking forward to using our Groupon for the tasting. After arriving we saw the sign which says that the tastings are always free!!! So after the tasting, which was nice, we ordered the ploughmans and the tacos and a bottle of Cranberry Sage mead. We enjoyed the food and a glass of the delicious mead. Before leaving we bought 14 bottles of mead including the one which we drank half of at the table. After, I asked if we could use our Groupon towards anything, Caitlin told us we couldn't. So we spent $281 plus $20 for the Groupon and didn't even get to take home any tasting glasses. I guess the $20 Groupon is just for the tour which is not clear on the coupon.

We enjoyed the mead, especially the Vanilla Bean and the Cranberry Sage.

600+ acre lake with many (hundreds) full time year round resident homes around the lake. No public docking and very limited access for daytime boater use and no parking areas for cars and trailers. Sunsets are spectacular, people around the lake are very nice, central to the region for shopping in North Conway, restaurants, B&B's and inns all well within driving distance. 30 minutes from Rochester, near the NH and Maine coast, 20 minutes from Wolfeboro and the "big lake", very tranquil and usable waterway.

I would highly recommend King Pine to anyone visiting the Madison area in the winter/early spring months. The facilities for tubing are fab and there are three different runs so if it is busy there is always enough runs to ensure you get lots of goes. Also, on some evenings they do $10 tubing . Good fun for people of all ages

At the southern end of Ossipee Lake near Long Sands, off Conservation Trail Road, is the Ossipee Conservation Trail and Conservation Boardwalk. It is a beautiful short walk from a small parking area off Conservation Trail to the boardwalk which winds its way north about 0.2 of a mile right to a short beach on the southeastern end of Ossipee where it enters the Ossipee River and the three bays (Broad, Leavitt, and Berry). The views here are spectacular of the big lake and the skyline, including the best view of Mt. Chocorua you'll find anywhere. The boardwalk is a beautiful wonder which stretches through a short stretch of trees, and there are blueberry bushes all around you the whole way to the beach. I highly recommend this particular Ossipee Lake trail: Rt 25 to Long Sands Road to Conservation Trail Road. You won't regret it!

A newly designated National Historic Landmark, the building is a great example of "Second Empire, New Hampshire" style. The interior contents are eclectic and represent the craft, cuisine, and commercial offerings of small town New Hampshire. Have a cup of coffee and a cookie and chat with the nice ladies about their village. Enjoy the experience. They are attempting to recreate the old-time general store as the village community center. On many fronts, they succeed nicely.

Turntable Park

Reviewed By Kmcoyle - Sanbornville, New Hampshire

Turntable Park is a little park/play/picnic area tucked next to and a little behind the parking area for the Town Hall and shopping area near the bottom of High Street. Very basic, but still a nice area for an outdoor picnic or bring the kids to burn off some energy. This is a town park maintained by the Wakefield, NH Parks and Recreation Department.

As part of the town recreation program, the park hosts a number of structured events and activities, For 4 weeks in the Summer (2015), Friday nights include "Music under the Tent" -- a series of free concerts. My husband & I attended the Seacoast Men's Barbershop concert last Friday: It was GREAT! Tent set up, plenty of seats, good music, and cake at the intermission. Burgers and hot dogs for sale prior by the boy scouts. Pass the hat for donations. 50-50 fundraiser ($1 per tix). A good and appreciative crowd: mostly older, very few kids. Wonderful night for music under the stars.
