Roman Theatre of Orange

Built under Emperor Augustus in the 1st century AD, the Roman Theatre of Orange experienced a real rebirth in 2003, transporting visitors back to Imperial Rome. The new tour and the free audioguide in seven languages tell visitors about the shows and social life in the Provencal city during Roman times. In the new projection room, the film, with computer-generated images and reconstructions of shows, retraces the history of the Roman Theatre of Orange.

The Ancient Roman Theatre in Orange is a must-see when visiting Provence. It is the largest remaining Roman Theatre with a massive stage wall. The audio tour is excellent as are several of the rooms detailing the history of Performances (opera, music, theatre) over the past two thousand years. It is definitely worth the reasonable admission fee.

Here's an easy way to see a beautiful arch that has an interesting history. The road and surrounding grounds are brand new. It's an easy drive around but we stopped to take photos.

Colline Saint-Eutrope

Reviewed By Mark H - Tinton Falls, New Jersey

Tried to walk up to the park using the map from the Roman Theatre. When we got to the entrance we found 2 routes, both of them appeared uninviting; not park-like and seemingly unsafe. Before we started on either path we encountered single men who did not seem like anyone you'd expect to see going to a park to take in the beauty of the view. Feeling unsafe we turned around and encountered another man coming up the stairs. The entire situation made us nervous and we decided to drive up on the other road. When we got to the parking lot, there were only a few cars and again we got the same feeling from the people we saw and the place did not appear at all like a park. I'm not paranoid but I can tell when you may be needlessly putting yourself in an unsafe situation and I thought it best to simply drive away.

Musee d'Art et d'Histoire

Reviewed By rob2269 - Grand Junction, Colorado

I enjoyed this very small museum, the entrance price is part of the theatre cost, and there are some lovely bits and bobs to see (roman and up time-wise). The museum felt dusty and underused, but since I do not like crowds in museums, the fustian feeling added to my enjoyment.

Office de Tourisme d'Orange

This facility has a collection of handouts, little information on display.
The staff seemed accomodating but did not go out of their wat to offer (sell) the district.
This district is rich in History and has a wide range of food and wine, easy to market.
Incidentally there was a great market in Orange center on Friday but I stumbled in to it.
Great food on sale good prices, is it every Friday?

After visiting many of the great Cathedrals of Europe ( over 50) I would have to say this is one of the least impressive. Dark and dank this church reminds me of other sites that have long been forgotten and overlooked. If you're pressed for time, don't bother
