We took a bus to Ohrid from Skopje and spent the day there. The lake is absolutely enchanting. We were enthralled by its beauty. We walked through the town for various views of the lake, with each turn giving us another picturesque sight. The lake has great charm and made a fantastic day trip from Skopje. In the future, we might even spend longer, should we find the time to return.

Throughout history, the Manastir was in the hands of Bulgaria (Bulgaria Empire), 905 Greece 1600, Albania 1912, Yugoslavia 1925, and Macedonia since 1991. He was named after Saint Neum, a writer and enlightener in the eighth century, who gave the Slavic people - Glagolitic - Cirillic script . St. Naum is also buried in the church.

Just a few uphill yards from the Portal Gate, and the Roman Amphitheater, the church of Lady at Periviepta is more impressive internally than the exterior suggests.
It is paid admission with no photography permitted, but this does not prepare you for imaginative frescoes, and wall paintings of spiritual explanations from begone times, and probably also of deep cultural significance.
Some of the wall paintings have suffered with age / centuries of candle smoke / attention of Turkish troops. Breathtaking imagery, and reflecting the pious Christian culture.
There is also a very interesting display, complete with photography of the town of Ohrid and highlighting its significance during the pre world war one period.
It is an outstanding church, and with so much to see, we found it impossible to take it all in.

Compared to some of the other churches in and around Ohrid, this church, St Kliment is a bit understated - although we still thought that this serene building was most enjoyable.
Unusually parts of this church are very simplistic , white washed walls contrasting with dark stained wood panels, but this had the effect of being a respectful inspiring and reflective spiritual building.
Given the almost understated nature of the church, the location of St Kliment final resting place is almost hidden away, unusual for this saint has achieved an almost cult status.

The paper-maker has one of reportedly 2 original copies of the Gutenburg press, which he still uses. He gives a quick demo of how paper is made (I was with a group, though his tiny workshop/display area is readily seen by anyone). He has many of his handmade papers, prints, leather-bound journals, etc. for sale.

This church dates back to the 11th century and originally functioned as a Cathedral for the archbishopric of Ohrid.
The church was converted into a mosque in 1466 and later a warehouse, only re-converting to a church about 100 years ago.
It contains some rare Byzantine frescos from 11th & 12th century.
Nice grounds complete with turtles, cats and a dog!

This small settlement on the water is worth a visit, although it won’t take much of your time. It’s a nice reproduction of the way Pieper used to live in this area and it is accompanied by information tables in every house.
There is a small visitor center, where you can find some more information, drink a cup of coffee and use toilets.
Parking is a bit outside of the museum and provides great view.

The site around Plashnik is a complete mess as several large apartment complexes are being built (very sad they are so close to the church) but don't let this dissuade you from visiting. The church (100 dinar admission) has some spectacular remnants of old frescoes and has a beautiful interior. Outside, under some temporary roofing, you will find restored mosaic tile floors from some of the other buildings which use to be located on the site. They are quite amazing.
