ACE Adventure Resort - Day Tours

Our family and friends had a blast here! We came for a day on the lake and the kids enjoyed the various "toys" and wore themselves out. There is a blob, slide, zipline, spinny things, see-saw things, all manner of things to play on. All participants must wear a life jacket and there are no life guards watching, so parents much keep an eye on their kids. Loads of lounge chairs line the lake, cornhole games, and music. It's a party. All day. We had lunch here and I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent food! They have excellent wood-fired pizzas, burgers, nachos, hand-cut potato chips, wraps. We tried many of the menu items and they were all excellent. My one complaint was that the cornhole bags were awful. All different weights, dirty, and there were only 6 useful bags for 2 cornhole games. Should have been eight bags for each game. I'm sure it's hard to keep track of cornhole bags but it would have been nice to have decent ones. Also, I would be curious as to how often the water in the lake is tested....

As we were booking our trip, the day they offered to us suddenly became unavailable when they discovered we had paid ahead of time. Also, our purchase had included a lunch, and they tried to get us to take a trip that did not include the lunch we had paid for. Ultimately, we discovered this company overcharged us on our credit card. They originally claimed we purchased items that we didn't, but even after changing their story, were never able to give us an itemized bill that made any sense. It became clear that they had charged us incorrectly, but despite several attempts at getting our bill fixed, they have refused to honor their quoted price by fixing the overcharge. It has been a complete nightmare. *Safety* Please be aware that (as of the time of this review) although their website advertises class 3 rapids on this section, it actually has class 4 that proved too much for my little ones.

I selected Cantrell based on It's TripAdvisor reviews, and I'm so glad I did. I had only rafted once before, many many years ago, so I would call myself a beginner. Our guide Eddie made us feel very comfortable, and his 28 years of experience was evident in his expertise and confidence on the river. Every member of the staff that we had the pleasure to meet was super friendly and helpful. Our ride down the river was a blast and I look forward to doing it again, definitely with Cantrell.

Actually, my husband and I learned that people still live in Thurmond, WV. They show movies once a month in the Post Office that feature or mention Thurmond. The movie "Matewan" was filmed here. That being said, this town is a reminder of when coal was king and, as a result, communities popped up. Railfans ought to really enjoy it. History buffs ought to like it as well. AmTrak does make stops Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday if people have tickets. There are, if I recall, two state parks that are close for people who want to camp and spend more time here. Oh, the trains are active! So, pay attention! And, stay off of the tracks!

Fantastic experience. Laid back but very competent guides. Two on site bars with craft beer. Free PBR on the return drive after rafting. Best for adults, couples, groups of friends who can appreciate a social night life. A truck or SUV is best if you plan to camp in the wooded area. Some cars with low clearance will drag on the road through that area. We did the reverse gauley two day trip. It was a $200 per person saving compared to other outfitters so this company is very affordable. Hoagie was our guide for both days of rafting and has a very relaxed guiding style. He also has a well developed knowledge of local civil battles, especially battles led by General J. Jameson.

We came to Wild Blue Adventure as an epic 30th birthday celebration. It did not disappoint.

Scheduling a flight was extremely easy. We called and were able to find a time on the desired day and had all of our questions answered over the phone.

We chose a 40-min flight that went along the New River Gorge. The flight showed the twists and turns of the river, the famous bridge and a waterfall.

The pilot asked how much acrobatics to do and made it amazingly fun. Went up to 4 Gs on one move.

It was exactly the unique thrilling experience we were looking for.
