The Tamborine Mountain Distillery (“the Company”) is a successful Queensland, based business, that for the last quarter of a century has produced and distributed several specialized liqueurs and spirits for local, regional, national distribution, although has had significant interest shown for the international market. The Company was founded in 1993 by Michael and Alla Ward and has grown over the years into an iconic tourism facility and award winning liqueur brand.

Since our last visit the distillery has changed hands. The new owners were very welcoming and seem to be settling in well. We enjoyed a sample of the wonderful selection on offer, it was so hard to decide which to purchase. a visit is highly recommended.

Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens is an 11 hectare site encompassing a wide variety of Gardens from Roses, Magnolias, Bromeliads, Orchids, Camellias, Rhododendrons, Natives, to name but a few. With easy walks, plus some that are not suitable for those with walking limitations, you will be able to see the results of 30 years work by a dedicated group of Volunteers. Picnic tables and shelters are available, plus, throughout the Gardens, Contemplative sites, with a seat, enable the visitor to rest and take in the beauty of nature. On Wednesday and Thursday mornings, plants that have been propagated at the Gardens are available for sale. The Gardens are open every day of the year from dawn to dusk. There is no facility for purchasing food or drink at the Gardens though Gallery Walk, with it's numerous outlets is only a short drive away.

I was there recently, in the morning before it perhaps became crowded.
Simply delightful, wandering around with map in hand, checking out all the plants and trees. Everything clearly signed so you know what’s what. A nice blend of both Temperate and Tropical.
Excellent walking paths meandering here and there, a lovely lake, a Japanese garden, some contemplative sites, a stone bridge, a rainforest walk and some seats and tables scattered about. There are a few steps on some of the paths and some inclines, but not too steep.
Masses of Gardens with flowers like Rhododendrons, Azaleas, Roses, Bromeliads, Hydrangeas, Camellias and Orchids plus many, many more. And too many types of other exotics, native plants and trees to mention.
It’s a good spot for a picnic too with covered tables located just inside the entrance or you can sit on the grass beside the lake. A very pretty and delightful area. Some of the magpies might be looking for a handout.
I believe the Gardens have been established and now maintained by some wonderful volunteers as well as members of the Mount Tamborine Garden Club. What a magnificent job you all do.
The Gardens are open during daylight hours seven days a week.
You can even buy plants there on Wednesday and Thursday mornings between 8.30am and 11.30am.
I was there a little over an hour but perhaps you may wish to stay longer to just sit and admire, chill out, take lots of photos or have a cuppa if you bring your Thermos and picnic basket.
For me, the Gardens are a must do when in the region.

Gallery Walk at Eagle Heights on Tamborine Mountain is one of the most established tourist attractions in South-East Queensland. The precinct teems with all kinds of shops, including gifts, souvenir, knick knacks, antiques and so on; alongside restaurants, cafes and art galleries. Judging by the car- and bus- loads of tourists visiting the attraction daily, it is clearly popular. Evidently, tourism promotion has been successful.
In some cases however – as in this case - it is difficult not to feel compelled to take a contrasting view. Gallery Walk was once a quaint village with true charm and ambience, and genuinely friendly vendors (usually owner-operators) offering authentic locally-made produce and craft at reasonable prices. In two decades, it has warped into a principally commercial Enterprise. Not to mention, a busy, hustle-and-bustle place teeming with people and vehicles. Has it lost its relaxed charm and appeal? Most definitely.
Besides tourist numbers can be misleading. The fact that organised tours - especially those from foreign lands - place Gallery Walk on their itinerary does not necessarily mean that the attraction is worthwhile visiting or that it will be a positive experience. Unfortunately many overseas tourists simply do not know any better.
The above said, there are businesses in Gallery Walk that are deserving of accolades for what they do. A few are superb and outstanding, and certainly deserve your patronage. Hats off and every success to them. However there are also those that stock cheap foreign-made products.
Tamborine Mountain is indeed a great place to visit. It has much to offer visitors, especially those involving nature and adventure. It is a location much loved by locals but, as many fear, it is fast becoming a victim of its own success.
If you really are scratching for something to do, by all means visit Gallery Walk. However if you prefer to avoid crowds, there are other features of the Gold Coast hinterland – particularly those that involve nature – that are deserving of your vacation time.
Access from the M1 Pacific Motorway:
Take Exit 57 whether going north or southbound on the M1. Turn towards the west and either (a) go straight into the Tamborine-Oxenford Road Deviation or (b) left into Old Pacific Highway. Then from either, follow the signs onto Tamborine-Oxenford Road. In approximately 20km, turn right into Long Road, aka Gallery Walk. Note that the road is narrow, windy and steep in parts. The drive up from the M1 takes about 40 minutes.
Hours:
Most shops are open 7 days from 10am to 4pm. Note that some shops are closed either Monday or Tuesday. Best days to visit are therefore Wed to Fri. Weekends are particularly crowded.

Lisa Bradley is the most patient and calm instructor around. The only female hang glider and paragliding instructor in Australia. My partner and I learnt to fly over 8 weeks (11 days). Mostly weekends. We learnt everything at the right time and felt completely supported and safe. Lisa is a skilled teacher for all levels of flying. She runs her business with integrity, values safety and, makes sure you have a positive experience. Lisa provides equipment, knowledge and introduces you to the ins and outs of the sport. We are both flying now and appreciate that we learnt from the best. 4 launch sites are nearby, training hill, towing capacity and soft turf for ground training. Individual feedback and pace. Theory was presented in a way that makes sense and our whole group got up and flying without hiccup. You will not regret your decision to train with Lisa and her team. Canungra is a pretty town that pilots frequent. If you are under Lisa's wing you are flying like a bird with a grin ear to ear.

I visited Witches Falls Winery with some friends for a tasting experience. We all found the wine to be wishy washy, acrid and overpriced.
If you are going to have a huge glass wall between the bar and the wine producing room you would, at the very least, ensure what your customers were looking at is pristine. What was on display through the glass was, what can only be described as, a disaster! Plant matter growing from the ceiling, an industrial pressure washer, dirty, grimey and all generally in poor condition. Not good!
Very nice cheeses though.

So many delicious flavours to choose from, so the hard part is narrowing down what to take home. We settled on the Lemon Meringue Pie, Choc Mint and Rum & Raisin. Lovely service too from a lady who explained the different processes used to make the fudge. We have tried other fudge shops here before and this one is definitely the best. I can see why they have won so many awards.

South East Queensland has had a bit of rain lately and Curtis Falls is running as good as ever! Take your camera for a run to capture the waterfall from the bottom. Not much wildlife to capture, however found a massive spider waiting patiently beside the walking track! Made my day.

This is situated at the Cedar Creek Estate (Winery) so there is more to do than just Glow worms. Paid $12 each to go into the Cave with a Guide who explains everything. There is also a video to watch before entering the cave. No photos allowed.
