Southwick's Zoo

Reviewed By Coral G - Winchendon, Massachusetts, United States

We visited the zoo on a Monday in September. It was nice and quiet. The Skyway was running so we took a ride. It was wonderful. No bumps along the way. We saw most of the park's wildlife. There's also a train, but we didn't ride it. You can feed and pet the herd of deer; there's a petting area for adorable goats; the staff provide informational sessions; there are shows. Each type of animal is explained via a board at the exhibit area. The board includes a map as to where the animal lives, the age span and size, whether the species is endangered and to what extent, and other information. The aviary is wonderful!. You can feed the parakeets. They fly onto your shoulder, or in my case, my hat. Although the zoo is not huge, it has a good variety of animals. What made an impression on me was the quality of care the animals receive. You can tell that the members of the staff really love the animals. The areas are well-maintained and clean. All animals had plenty of water and food. I look forward to returning soon.

Beautiful theater. We saw "A Christmas Carol" and it was a great show. Our seats were in the upper section and we could see the entire show clearly and without any obstruction. We arrived an hour ahead of time and did not have a problem finding a municipal parking space. We will be visiting the Stadium for future shows.

Wright's Chicken Farm Gift Shop

It's sorta like that, in terms of noise. But if you can get around the inability to have a conversation over the sound of tables being cleared quite loudly, the food is good. The chicken, which is what they're known for, is moist, tender, and falls off the bones. It's all family style, so there's a lot on the table, and with the chairs pretty close together, it can get ... cozy? Crowded? Cramped? The latter if you've a wheelchair at your table, so try to ask for a table large enough to spread out both the chairs and the place settings. For vegetarians, this is not going to be your favorite place. Everything besides the chicken is ok. But that's it: just ok. It's salad and pasta and French fries and rolls. The salad comes with dressing already on it and in most cases at our table, it was too much dressing. The pasta had pepper in the red sauce, but that's it. No depth there, very plain. The rolls were ok. The fries were thick cut and just ok. Service was very attentive and super fast (which likely yielded more noise). It is handicapped accessible although the ramp is very steep. (It's hard to see in my photo, but the ramp is in the shady corner of the building.) There's no auto-door opener button, so you need someone to come along and help with the doors. There was good handicapped parking, tho, and the guard at the entrance to the parking lot gave excellent directions as to the best place to park. Finally, you need reservations, and they make you wait to be seated until everyone in your party is there.

We arrived at 10 am and the beach was not too crowded. The kids ages 5, 4 and 4 really love the slide in the water. The beach is very clean. The lifeguards seem attentive. The only complaint I have is the number of buses and kids that arrived at 11:45. ( about 7 busloads). The beach became so crowded that we decided to leave. There were easily over 100 kids. They should really put a limit on the number of kids from camps.

Located in a 1915 textile mill, the museum is dedicated to the political and cultural lives of the working class. It also serves as a visitors center for the Blackstone Valley National Corridor.

The museum focuses on family life in Rhode Island's mill towns which were primarily settled by French Canadians. There are several interactive exhibits, some film presentation and even a mock Catholic school classroom which really brought back memories for me. You can dive into newspaper articles, yearbooks and other memorabilia which give a sense of life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This look back in time highlights the daily life, and struggles of those who settled in this area as immigrants. I have visited many times and still enjoy brining visitors into enjoy this wonderful little museum….

Rustic Drive in Theatre

Reviewed By Robert P - New Bedford, Massachusetts

I went here on a Friday night for the first time. It cost $27/per car to enter with three screens playing 2 movies each. So you can fill up your car for $27 and watch TWO movies. They start around 8:30pm, but gates are open far before then so you can park and set up.

We watched the first movie and took off. We were worried there may be massive traffic to leave, but each movie ends at different times, so we were out in under 60 seconds.

At the beginning of the movie they play this short clip of how important the snack bar is since they have to pay the movie producers almost all of their entrance fees. So we ended up going to the snack bar to support them and get some food. They also have bathroom facilities and a newly opened ice cream stand (we did not get ice cream as the line was huge for this) I am attaching a picture of their menu with prices.

Food we got:
Pizza slices - terrible. It was actually worse than frozen pizza
Fried Oreos - AMAZING! We got an order and went back for a second midway through the movie.

Overall this is a great spot to go. You can load up your car and bring your own chairs and food and drink inside if you'd like without an issue. I would highly recommend!

Cormier Woods

Explore a beautifully preserved farmstead that dates to the 17th century and wander trails that lead past stone walls through restored woodlands.

Reviewed By IndyAngie - Zionsville, Indiana

My partner and I visited Cormier Woods in October 2015.

We're 50-something outdoor enthusiasts who like to seek our unique hikes. After seeing the photo of Cormier Woods on-line (probably the same one shown on Trip Advisor), with the picturesque barn and old homestead, I was reminded of the Port Oneida Rural Historic District in Sleeping Bear Dunes, Michigan - with miles of hiking trails through picturesque abandoned farmsteads and barns. Based on this portrayal, we drove almost 90 minutes from our homebase to hike Cormier Woods and I must sadly admit, we were disappointed.

Although the Trustees keep the trails very nice and tidy and it was certainly a pretty walk through the woods, we found nothing out of the ordinary to inspire. Furthermore, when we came up on the backside of the "old homestead" and encountered the "No Trespassing - Private Property" signs and someone out back gardening, we realized that the old homestead is, in fact, a private residence. Somehow, we felt we had been misled. The "old homestead" is not as it is being portrayed by the Trustees in their PR materials describing the property.

A fine stop if you happen to be passing by, but I wouldn't go out of my way to find it.
