Brisbane Whale Watching

Brisbane Whale Watching invites you to come on board the magnificent Eye-Spy for an encounter with the whales. There’s no better place to observe the mighty Humpback than Brisbane’s Moreton Bay.

Reviewed By CJFallowfield - Llandrinio, United Kingdom

I was scheduled to go on this trip on a Friday, and sat at the meeting point for over 40 minutes waiting to be collected, only to find that it had been cancelled, so instead it was rearranged for the following Monday. By the time the tour bus had stopped to pick everyone up, it was just over an hour before we arrived in Redcliffe to walk out to the jetty to board the lovely Eyespy. I'd paid for the VIP ticket, which meant a separate air-conditioned cabin with a table and guaranteed window view, and it included a free drink and buffet lunch (I didn't partake in lunch so can't comment on this side of the trip). As it was almost the end of the season, and a week day to boot, there was probably no more than 60 people onboard, which meant that over the three decks there was plenty of room for people to spread out to get good shots of the whales. I'm not sure how easy that would have been if the ship was at full capacity. We were lucky enough to see three pods of whales during out time out, though the coveted "breaches" where the whales jump right out of the water, were at a distance, so you'd only have been able to capture those shots with a professional camera and zoom lens. We did see lots of rolling, slapping of tails and fins though - It's easy to get too wrapped up in trying to capture the perfect shot and not just taking the time to appreciate the beauty of witnessing this once almost extinct creature in all of its beauty - so I actually put my camera away and chose to be in the moment. A word of warning, it was a cloudy day with a strong breeze out on the water, so I didn't notice how strong the sun actually was and came away with quite painful sunburn - always put your suncream on when out on the water! It's heartbreaking to think that these magnificent creatures were hunted and killed in such a barbaric manner, thank goodness they are now protected and their numbers are increasing year on year. A very enjoyable day out, sunburn aside!

Aeropower Helicopters

Located within the amazing local scenery of Morton Bay, Glass House Mountains, Bribie Island or even Brisbane CBD. Whatever the choice, your scenic flight will surely be one to remember. Or for those really special occasions, why not charter a helicopter to one of the local wineries!

Reviewed By Felicity B - Brisbane, Australia

Recently I was incredibly lucky to go for a charter flight with Aeropower, it was my second flight in a helicopter and it was absolutely amazing. To start with all the guys at Aeropower are equally friendly, supportive and professional - you instantly feel the passion they have for flying and they are great at answering any questions (I had quite a few) and making you feel comfortable. The aircraft are well presented, clean and comfortable and you feel very safe after your briefing. My charter took me up around the Glasshouse Mountains, over Australia Zoo, across to Bribie Island and then home around the bay - you'll be surprised both by how close you feel to the scenery whilst also being able to see clearly for miles - it is just, well, wow! In short I had a fantastic experience with Aeropower, I can't wait to go again and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

It hosts a huge annual kite-flying event. Water attractions launch from here.

Slickers Horse Riding

Reviewed By Christine J - Brisbane, Australia

I went on the winery tour that's offered every Saturday. This was my first time ever riding a horse so naturally I was a little anxious but I needn't be as the lovely ladies assisting us (Tia, Amanda and Connie) made the day a very enjoyable one and helped me to become more confident handling my horse (the lovely Poko). This was such great value for money - $130 per person gets you an escorted horse ride for the day (we were riding for at least 5 hours), a visit to the local winery with wine tasting and cheese platter. We had lunch at the winery (you pay for that at the restaurant) and I highly recommend the slow cooked pork belly for two - absolutely melt in the mouth delicious. The ride back after lunch was challenging with lots of steep hills and small creek crossings but worth it for the magnificent views. We went out on a slightly rainy day but even with the low level clouds the view was still amazing. Daryl is the owner of Slickers and takes the more experienced riders for a separate ride to the beginners for part of the day. Daryl is a character and calls things as he sees them - a typical bushie and good for a laugh. Highly recommend Slickers, particularly if you're new to horse riding, and a big thank you particularly to Connie for helping me on the day. Makes me want to come back for more!

Westfield North Lakes

Westfield North Lakes has your favourite fashion, beauty, lifestyle and food retailers, all in the one luxurious shopping setting.

Reviewed By Peppacollie - Brisbane Region, Australia

North Lakes is a huge shopping centre, with a variety of food and retail outlets. Lots of new stores with the recent development. Great to have a movie theatre in the centre and being able to get a meal afterwards. The Thai restaurant is good value and great meals. Main issue, as with most shopping centres is parking but if you get there early enough usually not a problem. However, trying to get out can be an issue with the way traffic flow is designed. Not happy with paid parking as trips to hairdressers, with grocery shopping can exceed the free time period. For something that used to be free, it's annoying that paid parking is now in place. Due to this, myself and others have moved their general grocery shopping to the shopping centre at Mango Hill. Less fuss, easier to park and some good food outlets. North Lakes is usually the choice for non essential and discretionary shopping. It's a nice centre, but at the end of the day just another indoor shopping mall to spend money in.

Bee Gees Way

There is a bronze statue of the Bee Gees from when they were boys growing up in Redcliffe. The statue marks the start of Bee Gees Way, a walkway dotted with photos, anecdotes and other items donated by Barry Gibb. It was opened by Barry on 14 February 2013.

Reviewed By Sue K - Adelaide, Australia

Great experience! Extremely well set out chronological history of the BeeGees and their contributions to the music world. Loved that we were the only ones there it was like it was just for us. We arrived at 9 which coincided with the light and sound presentation ( there are several ). The best part is it’s free!
