Beautiful castle, exactly what you imagine thinking of castle walls, knights, Middle Ages. Completely preserved almost frozen in time. Great views of Chianti region. Unfortunately for our visit combination of terrible rain and road blocks by big cycling event created some difficulties. Still could appreciate the character of the place. It is very small, so half hour is more than enough for a stop.

We weren't really interested in this to be honest, but if you buy a ticket for the walls, it includes entry to the museum, so we thought, why not? So glad we did.
The displays were informative and we learned so much about the history of the region. They even have armour you can try on - great fun had by an American teenager who spent a good 20 minutes clanking round waving his sword; very funny, we loved it!
Best value for money in Tuscany.

A visit to Monteriggioni is not complete without a visit to this small beautiful local church. Compared with the impressive churches and cathedrals in cities like Siena, Rome or Florence this church is very modest. But just because of this reason the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta has It's own beauty of quietness and spirituality.

Mulino di Quercegrossa

Reviewed By Anna C - Chichester, United Kingdom

We drove past and stumbled upon this place which looked amazing on the website and from the road, but actually it's quite expensive for what it is. The website advertises pools Waterfalls and lazy rivers but it isn't quite that, it is a good place to cool off under the hot Tuscan sun although is quite pricey to do so. A pretty place and worth a visit if holiday money isn't an object.

Abbadia Isola

Reviewed By Megan M - Toronto, Canada

On the way from Florence to Monteriggioni, we stopped into the incredible quaint Abbadia Isola. It seems as though this town is filled with adorable elderly people and their cute old dogs. Save for one restaurant, it is a sleepy little place but is so quintessentially Tuscan, if makes for a nice stop along the way.

A simple walk through the forrest led us to the hermitage. This former monastery is surrounded by high trees and nothing but silence. This monastery is still inhabited by one person and therefore it's a hermitage. If you ring the bell this person, the "custode" will come and lead you through the pretorium and the church which both contain beautiful fresco's. A trip worthwhile!
