Mid-Lothian Mines Park

Reviewed By Gea2500 - Richmond, United States

This is my favorite little local park. For perspective - this is a neighborhood park located alongside a decently traveled road and from various parts of the path you will see peoples backyards through the woods. If your expectation is a forest hideaway, this is not the place. However, it is the perfect spot to get some sunshine and exercise in the area. There are two sides of the park. One side goes to the ruins of the coal mine (with informational signs). Connected by a tunnel that goes under the road, the other path goes around and across a lake populated with geese and ducks. There is also a small old family cemetery that is worth a peak around if you are interested in the history. The paths are all very well maintained and easy to maneuver. When the weather is warm, I have often come across people hanging out in the grass playing guitar and reading. There are also lots of families out with their kids, riding bikes and walking dogs. It is very relaxed and quiet. I always park in the lot on the opposite side of the lake and have never run into a parking issue personally. People tend to be coming and going a lot so in my experience the spaces open up pretty fast. Highly recommend it if you're nearby and want to get out of the house for an hour or two.
