Melilla (/məˈliːjə/ mə-LEE-yə; Spanish: [meˈliʎa], locally [meˈliʝa]; Arabic: مليلية, Maliliyyah; Berber languages: ⵎⵔⵉⵜⵙ, Mřič) is a Spanish autonomous city located on the north coast of Africa, sharing a border with Morocco, with an area of 12.3 km (4.7 sq mi). Melilla, along with Ceuta, is one of two permanently inhabited Spanish cities in mainland Africa. It was part of the Province of Málaga until 14 March 1995, when the city's Statute of Autonomy was passed.

Go here first when you visit Melilla as the old quarter and its various museums set the historical scene of Melilla and it is all free!
The ethnographic museum is particularly good with interesting displays and objects from the collection. You can easily spend a morning wandering around this interesting place.

Central in Manila, this park quickly becomes central to your day when taking in the town. Plenty going on, beautiful architecture, statues and flora. Great for people watching or just resting tired legs. Great level of maintenance and a photographers heaven. Enjoy

When I visited the access route was partially blocked and one had a long walk with no signs. I had to ask several local people for directions.

Dont miss the city centre of Melilla,it is full of modernis buildings designed by a disciple of Gaudí,the catalonian Enrique Nieto. Some of his most relevant buildings are located facing the Plaza de España,and others along the Avenida Juan Carlos I. Dont miss el Edificio de los Cristales!

This town is fascinating, but I didnt feel comfortable as a woman alone and I can't remember the last time Insaid this about anywhere. I was constantly on my guard and felt unsafe and insecure.
The place is oddly quiet, it lacks people, traffic and a general busyness. The old town is amazing and I spent the whole day there, but going for food in the evening, I felt really unhappy about.

Because Melilla is so small, on any length of stay, you will find yourself passing through the plaza quite often. And you will be happy to do so, because the beautiful space, the access to the park and the historic facades that surround the plaza all make for a very nice visit.

Realistic life-size models of dinosaurs (at least one with feathers as per the recent thinking) with atmospheric lighting and noises - could be a bit scary for little children! Free entry, but opening times are variable, so check before you go.

In the Old Quarters you will find the Municipal Museums complex which is a threefold presentation, a "Melilla Historic Museum with add-ons". You will find a rather tiny section on the sephardic (jewish) heritage of Melilla, a broader and much educating one on the Amazigh (that is Berber) culture of the area around and finally the emphasis of the exhibition, the town#s history and way through the ages. Good explanations, a great place to visit. Other facilities you may need are in good shape.
