Spent 2 days here in the summer and it was so unexpectedly great since the North Dakota stereotype is nothingness. The north end is especially nice. There are hikes you can do there and basically, no one goes up there so you'll have a pleasant experience. We even passed by a family of buffaloes on the road!

Late afternoon we took the drive through the loop. The park was beyond my expectation. The geological formations and the wildlife were simply amazing. We saw wild horses, prairie dogs (many areas), bison, coyote, elk. Nice drives with lots of areas for great photo opportunities. I wish I was staying in the area longer to get a chance to go to the North unit.

Stopped at the rest area thinking that it was like other rest areas, BOY was i wrong. Nice little gift store and the view OMG walked around and took pictures even got real close to a Buffalo and snapped some pictures also. Well worth the stop!!!!!!!

We live in South Dakota and decided to experience North Dakota's badlands and TRNP. Wow!!! What a beautiful area....much more than expected!!
TRNP is a tribute to Theodore Roosevelt and an oasis in an otherwise flat grassland area. We are figuring trips so we can experience again....

Definitely worth the price of admission to visit this unique home and learn about Medora history. Many of the furnishings and items are original due to the fact that the Mores family had a caretaker living in the house until it was donated to ND in 1936. It would be beneficial to remain open later in the summer. We were the last ones in when we visited and felt a bit rushed. We saw several people turned away at the admission booth.

I was so wonderfully overjoyed that I took a couple hours in the afternoon to go to the Old Town Theater and see Joe Wiegand's rendition of Teddy Roosevelt. He's internationally acclaimed as a one-man stage production of Teddy, performing hundreds of times a year and at venues all over the world, including the White House.
His presentation was above and beyond all entertaining. He wove history and fun facts and into everything and gave one a complete understanding of who Teddy Roosevelt was and what he did for the National Parks and the US. I noticed in the answers to questions from folks that he is a true student and a wealth of information about Teddy. So glad I went to this production. BULLY!

I leaned a lot about the rodeo and the different types of competitions and how each works. There is a short film which is good and exhibits with the history of cowboys, ranching and some Native American cultures. There are a few mentions of Teddy Roosevelt. Enjoyable.

Course is laid out in the Badlands featuring very unique scenery. Is one of the top 100 golf courses in the US. Staff totally takes care of you from the park Rangers to the staff in the pro shop. No walkers, carts only and don't go after lost balls (4 of us lost 25 balls!). We aren't the greatest golfers, but had a great time!

There's simply nothing else like it...riding your horse across the top of a butte, cautiously glancing down to enjoy the scenery without turning your stomach upside down...taking a deep breath of the sage baking in the hot sun...viewing a herd of buffalo in the distance hoping they don't get too close... and arguing with the prairie dogs who think YOU'RE getting too close! The folks at Peaceful Valley offer a great trail riding experience that's safe (a quick riding lesson and safety instructions are mandatory) and absolutely breathtaking. Because they're located in Theodore Roosevelt National Park there's always the chance you'll have a close encounter with some form of wildlife. This past summer while we were waiting to get on our horses, a buffalo family walked right past the corrals and across the parking lot. Intimidating, yes. But incredibly exhilierating!
Although their website suggests making a reservation, we've never needed one. Beware in the hottest summer months that they sometimes only ride in the mornings.
