Red Sand Beach (Kokkini Ammos)

Reviewed By Roberto S

Decided to go to the red beach with my family and friends.
From Matala you need to "climb" up to the hill, before having the chance to walk down to the see. (Pretty hard for young kids under 6/7 would say).
There are two different ways to reach it, one is slightly easier.
Once on the beach (1/2 hour at least), realized that day unfortunately the sea wasn't so clean, maybe due to the tide. In the afternoon it was better.
If the sea if flat, a small boat can help you go back to Matala beach.
Worth it and expensive the Mojito you can have at the bar.
No food there.
No toilette, in case of need...enjoy open air!!!

Agio Farago (Gorge of Saints)

Reviewed By Rūta A - Vilnius, Lithuania

We did both - Martsalo gorge and Agio Farango gorge and both a quite easy and nice.
We took that gravel road from Odigitria Monastery and drive very slowly because the road was very narrow and rough. It is possible to do with that rented small car but be careful. We haven't reached that parking place because a road was getting worse and worse so we left our car maybe 1.5 km until the parking place and simply walked that distance.
A gorge itself is very easy, short and impresive. Huge cliffs and climbers. Amazing beach and a old church. It was a windy day and not so warm (in the begining of April) so we just walked that gorge, had a break at the beach and went back.

Matala beach

Reviewed By rollneck - london

Ancient caves carved into the cliff overlook the beach which was an ancient port. Now it's pretty busy but still nice with loads of tavernas going up into the village which is quite charming. The swimming and snorkelling is very good. It's one of the best arches in the area that's got easy access.. many of the others are far off down dirt tracks that nearly killed my Toyota Yaris

We loved this little art shop and made a few trips in during our stay trying to decide how many pieces of art we could fit in our suitcases. On our first visit, we met two of the female artists who were so sweet and let us even look around in the wood shop in the back. When we returned to make our first purchase the husband of one of the women was there. He was very accommodating and patient with us while we picked. We ended up leaving with two small pieces after gawking over a few others that we decided we just couldn't fit. When we got home my father who had also been traveling with us let us know he went back and got us the other two pieces of art from the store and we were so happy! The girls were there again upon his return and even added a little touch to the pieces of art to make them more personal. Great art and even better hospitality.

Really the music selection is good but why bothering people with loud sound in a quiet cute village as Matala? Service and drinks were ok.

Matala Fish Spa

Reviewed By TRex1804
