I wasn't sure what to expect when I and four of my girlfriends booked this "experience", but what we received was nothing short of magical. Kate and Jana shared their passion and love of these raptors and opened our eyes to another world.

It could have been the first of blush of spring on the hills that were so green that you expected a leprechaun to emerge at any moment, it could have been the magnificence of watching Avalon soar overhead to me, or it could have been the warmth of the sun on our faces as we took a group photo with her, but whatever the reason was, the beauty of the day left an impression on me that I will remember forever.

Easy level trail, mostly paved... Walking on the paved surface that was the old train track easement was nice, birds, farmlands and other things of interest kept us happily engaged the whole way out to Sutter and back.
I will be going out again this fall when the temps are lower.

Bok Kai Temple

Reviewed By Iso T - San Francisco, California

I only walked the outside, it appears they have let it return to nature. It was deserted. Also, the back is almost crammed up against a dike, which makes it feel claustrophobic. Also, it's at the end of the main drag in Marysville- but 50% or more of downtown is closed up and boarded, so there's no reason to go there, seriously. It's clear that the Wal-Mart a mile away caused most of the town to close up shop. A sad place. Other than that, a sign said that private tours of the temple can be arranged, but the area depressed me.

Certainly not See's Candy but not bad. We had the almond clusters in the dark and milk chocolate. Very good. They also have some nice gift choices at very reasonable prices. We were a little underwhelmed because of the previous glowing reviews...but the chocolates are o.k.

Middle Mountain Foundation Interpretive Program Hikes - Tours

Reviewed By CTBCalifornia - Groveland, California

Finally got to hike in Sutter Buttes this weekend, it was very good. Took me 2 years to get a spot on a hike with Middle Mountain, the company that offers guided walks inside the buttes on private lands. Their hikes are popular, so you have to know your schedule and book way in advance, and they will cancel hikes that don't have sufficient sign ups so that can be a factor too. But I would definitely recommend them as a resources to get to see the interior of Sutter Buttes, you don't have a choice so it is what it is as they say.

Sutter Buttes is almost all private land. You can drive around the buttes on county roads, but to get to the interior you must have permission. Middle Mountain has a relationship with several of the property owners, to run nature and education walks on their land. The views are lovely, both the pastoral interior meadows and valleys, and from the top of the surrounding countryside.

I recommend late spring, for good weather, little mud, and lots of wildflowers. The hikes are well managed, you walk in spurts then stop and talk about what you are seeing. I could have done with more walk, and less talk, especially non-nature related chat. (A lot of the people knew each other, including the guide, and they talked about things that had nothing to do with the outing, like their jobs and children. I could see several guests feeling left out and looking a bit lost and wanting to move on but having to wait on the chatters.)

Also, the hike was shorter than advertised, but it was very affordable as guided walks go, so I was satisfied with what we got. Besides, it was really wet and muddy, and about to start raining, so an early finish was OK with me.

Museum of the Forgotten Warriors

Reviewed By OldPilotOld - Lincoln, California

This is not a tradition military museum, it is much more. This is a collection of memorabilia donated from individuals or other sources. In many respects, it is a stroll down memory lane. It doesn’t have the emotional impact of the Vietnam memorial in Washington, but it does give pause to all that have gone before, especially when you see the picture of a young man in his ‘on display’ flight suit or other such displays.

One item that brought back a memory for me and my era was the smock a TWA flight attendant wore as part of her uniform. It was covered with metals and patches given to her by troops on the way home from Vietnam. She is in a picture taken in the loaded aircraft with a bunch of smiling faces and she is wearing her smock! Something as simple as that causes the memories to return! There were even some nurses’ smocks from bygone days. Also, between the two buildings is a ‘dog-tag garden’ honoring those lost in the Southwest Asia/Middle East conflicts.

The only omission in this vast collection was Korea, the ‘Forgotten War’. If there were items there, I missed them as the collection is so vast. If you are a veteran of the Vietnam era, you will see much to remind you of the good and not so good old days.

The Museum of the Forgotten Warriors is worth a visit. My wife enjoyed the visit saying it was very interesting and great for older children to give them a sense of history.

This is a beautiful man-made lake in downtown Marysville. Great to walk around, although you need to be careful when walking dogs - there are quite a few birds hanging around the waters edge. Blows my mind to hear about the cars that end up in this lake; if you're new to the area, make sure you STOP at that light or you're going under!
