The 10 Best Things to do in Manali, Himachal Pradesh

March 20, 2022 Timmy Ribble

In Hinduism, Manu was said to have survived a great flood that destroyed the rest of the world. He then recreated mankind in this Kullu Valley town. What a rush, huh? No wonder the towering peaks and verdant terrain of Manali attracts adventure travelers, with heli-skiing, hiking, mountaineering and river rafting the favored active pursuits. Come down from your endorphin high by breathing deeply at the four-story, wooden Hidimba Devi Temple, which sits in the middle of a nearby deciduous forest, or take a medicinal soak in the hot springs burbling from the ground a 30-minute walk from town.

We thoroughly enjoyed our white water rafting excursion on the Beas River from the Nature Park in Jhiri. It was our first time doing this activity. But, our guide was fantastic and went above and beyond his duties to make sure that were safe and, above all, create and record an exciting memory of a lifetime! Set right in between stately mountains on either side of the river, our 12km rafting was absolutely thrilling and breath-taking, enhanced by sights of glorious eagles soaring just above us! Definitely a must for all! Be prepared to be in awe of God's endless beauty in creation!

If you are in Manali, make a point to visit this place. It is a couple of minutes drive from Naggar Castle. The place is simply lovely and is extremely well maintained. The gallery of paintings by Nicholas Roerich is interesting. The life of the man is worth knowing about. The institute's activities and its association with a new-born India should fascinate many. The lovely walk up to the Tribal Art Gallery is also great. I would recommend a visit to people who are interested in our immediate past.

Jana Waterfall

Reviewed By Monu8501 - Chandigarh, India

Visiting Manali for the sixth time, I thought should explore some less known places. Jana was on the list This is a small waterfall nothing so special about it, it takes about 30 kms from Manali and about 15 kms from Naggar castle. The road is very narrow and takes you through the thick pine forest and apple orchards. A sedan can go smoothly till the final 2-3 kms where the road is rocky and bumpy. It has two waterfalls, one is a minor and other the main one ( a fall of 15-20 feets). There are few local restaurants around the falls which serve the yummy local cuisine (Rajma, Rice, Kadi, Saag, Makki Roti, Jaggery, Desi Ghee, Acrot Chutney, local pickle).
