The name is kind of boring but the observation deck is well worth a short visit. The view is an incredible 360 deg view of the Maebashi area, including the beautiful Mt. Akagi-yama (also, a Japanese battle-ship in WWII). There is also a restaurant-bar which was closed during our visit.

Akagi Shrine

Reviewed By Andrew and Reis... D

This place has a long history...and mostly locals come here. One of the reasons why we brought our friend here during his visit to Japan was to take him on the road leading up to this place. It's a famous road that is super windy and on a nice sunny day you can hear all the motorcycles and race cars vroom vroom if up that road. There are plenty of bikers and road runner enthusiasts who enjoy the road up to this shrine. This shrine is set right next to a peaceful lake and you can rent a pedal boat to enjoy the lake. There are also plenty of hiking trails to choose from and enjoy here.

Shikishima Park

Shikishima Park includes a sports complex (soccer, baseball, athletics, water sports, etc.), a lake, a dedicated rose park, a golf course, and of course, a large park.
In hanami season, it attracts many, for its sakura trees.
Next to the golf course, there is a 'hidden' space for hanami where BBQ-in is allowed.
On summer, usually a lot of events are held here, including the Rose Festival at Bara Koen (offers illumination also).
Good for family relaxation.

Akagi Shrine

Reviewed By Tokugawa_Ieyasu - Fujieda, Japan

Visiting this old shrine brought me something special in my mind. The site of the shrine is silent, tall trees give the visitors natural energy.
There are more than 300 Akagi Shrine in Japan, and this one is supposed as the original by some people. On the way to the shrine, you may see a lot of cherry trees named "Senbon Zakura"(Thousands of Cherry Trees). In Spring time, the visitors can enjoy watching cherry blossoms. Though it was the beginning of autumn time when I visited, I could imagine how the cherry would be in Spring.
Two deities are enshrined here; Toyokiirihiko-no-mikoto and Omunachi-no-mikoto.
I believe those who know the essence of Shinto and Japanese culture can feel the beauty of this Miyosawa Akagi Shrine.

Senbon Cherry Blossom in Akagi Nammen

One of the finest sites to see cherry blossoms in Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture, this location was even listed in the "100 Best Cherry Blossom Sites in Japan." A road in the southern part of town spans 1.3Km and is lined with almost 1,000 large Yoshino cherry trees about sixty years old. In spring, this becomes a gorgeous "tunnel" of flowers. At night, paper lanterns are lit up, and you can see another face of the blossoms. During the event, there are street Performances and traditional presentations, as well as exhibits of local food products available to purchase.
