Our site overlooked the beautiful Tchefuncte River with plenty of shade. We have camped here several times and prefer the back loop because of access to the river, boat launch, short hiking trail, and shade trees. If it's not too hot we will ride bikes into the city of Madisonville or into the nearby neighborhoods. We typically bring our boat and dock within the campground. The dock space is limited and is on a first come, first serve basis. Weekends are fairly busy, but we haven't encountered a problem with docking as of this review. We also like to sit on the walkway next to the river and fish. We have never caught anything but it is very peaceful and relaxing. There is a small playground for children in the front loop. The restrooms are clean and the rangers are helpful. Wifi is not very good at all.

My review focuses on the state owned/operated cabins overlooking the lake. We visit Mandeville once a year to bicycle on the Tammany Trace trails which pass through Fountainbleu State Park. We recently noticed the rental cabins and decided to give them a try instead of staying in a hotel in Mandeville.
We found the cabins to be well equipped and comfortable. Each cabin has two bedrooms, 1 bath, a kitchen, a living room and a porch (or two) with rocking chairs. However, it is the location that is most appealing. Watching the sun set from the cabin is a nice way to end the day. It was nice having the kitchen for breakfast preparation. We sampled nearby restaurants on some evening and cooked in on other evenings. Staying in the cabins five nights allowed time to enjoy bicycling and the neighboring communities (Mandeville, Covington, Abita Springs, Lacombe, etc.) was the perfect amount of time. It reminded me of the simple pleasures of my southern childhood. We have already made reservations for another stay.

Chelsea was our guide and she was very sweet and informative. Didn’t realize how massive Abita Brewery had become. Tastings after tour was great. Bartender went above and beyond to make us happy. Bartenders very attentive in bar area. Nice day trip for us!

A wonderful experience all wrapped up in a new building with memorable history explained in video, dioramas, pictures and objects, original as well as recreations. This museum presents the full maritime history of the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain centered in Madisonville, Louisiana. This town north of New Orleans has a long history from the native Choctaw indians to the explorers of the Mississippi River to the merchants and industrial ventures of the modern era. The museum presentation is educational, entertaining and well worth the visit. Particularly noteworthy is the fabulous dioramas of a typical early settler community and of numerous lighthouses in the region. Most of these lighthouses do not currently exist but did at one time and the artist responsible for all these works of art is truly a master. That alone would be worth the small price of admission. This museum is highly recommended.

The Hardware store is awesome, you can find some really cool stuff you need or didn't know you need. The adjacent museum is the treat, a self-guided experience into old Louisiana and downtown Covington. I've walked thru many times, always see something new.

This trail goes in for over 20 miles. Paved, smooth and nearly flat in either direction; at least for the portion from Mandeville and going east. Groomed along the trail edges . Well marked. Beautiful scenery. Water and woods. Squirrels, deer, cardinals and other birds. Watched for gators and snakes , but no worries, saw none. Not overly busy trail, but very much cyclists outnumbered all others. Fine to walk or run on it, though and I experienced no close calls.

I love this place. Its weird, and quirky! If you like things that make you go, hmmmm, this is the place for you! It's nestled at the edge of Abita Springs town square, in a little old gas station that reminds you of a time gone by. I've been more than a half a dozen times and see something different and new every time that I go. I jump at the opportunity to introduce this place to someone when I find out that they've never been. I love the owner/artists creativity and style and would love to see more. It would be awesome for it to expand with more exhibits!!
The only semi-negative that I have is that its starting to look a little run down. The courtyard area in the back is a little overgrown and losing it's luster. I think it would take very little effort to get this place back to it's former glory.....that, and maybe change the water occasionally for those poor turtles :(
Other than that, this place place is great....and only $3 to visit!

Beautiful scenery. Located at the Fairview Riverside State Park. The tour guides are very knowledgeable about their history, and they even give school field trip tours. It's only $4 for adults to take the museum tour and kids (under 12) and seniors (62+) get in free. I love touring historical places and hearing about the history-- if you're not interested in this kind of stuff, this destination probably isn't for you.

We were looking to do something different for date night and came across this. We had a great time and will go back soon. Thank goodness were grouped with another couple that had done an escape room before or we would have never figured it out. We may be able to do it by ourselves next time but definitely wouldn't suggest first timers to go it alone. Great adventure and close to home!!

Water Street Wreaths is a locally owned wreath shop and party place. Debbie and Donna are sisters who run the shop along with their best friend Francis. Not only do they have wreaths for sale on the walls, but they also take custom orders and are up for any challenges. They ship anywhere in the continental USA. They offer private wreath-making parties where they will supply everything needed to make a wreath to take home. Get a group of friends together and bring a bottle of your favorite wine. The wreath-making party is a fun experience, and you get to take home a wreath!
