Cruise past North Myrtle Beach to just before SC/NC border on hwy 17 and Vereen Memorial Garden is on the right. A free park with many walking trials and wooden walks off the intercoastal waterway. A regular shown us 2 bald eagles the nest in the area and where we can see barred owls in the woods. It is dog friendly. It is truly a hidden gem. The park does take donations to keep it in the condition it is. We will be back for sure.

Long Bay Golf Club

Reviewed By Lee C - Pewaukee, Wisconsin

The particulars: four guys who flew into Wilmington airport (ILM). We were looking for a North MB golf course to get a quick afternoon round in on our way to MB proper. We desired to ease into our trip before playing 36 each day. We needed a quick pace of play in order to finish. We wanted to spend $60 or less.

The Long Bay Golf Club was a winner on all fronts.

A tee time was procurred while driving from Wilmington ($42!). We checked in, played, and were back in our car driving all within a four hour window (golfed in 3:35).

We played 162 holes over five days (9 rounds). The best conditioned greens were played were at Long Bay Golf Club. Mind you, I think they were a bit on the slow side, but for our first round, I'd rather have greens in great shape than speed. The playing cooridors were wide enough to allow all range of players to get off the tee without losing many golf balls, but there were better angles to take for the better players. While the greens were in pristine condition, they were small, so accurate iron play is essential or you better have a good chipping game to score. The routing is nothing special, but I suppose the course was designed as a real estate play, so housing considerations had to come first.

Given it's North MB location, I think this will remain an underutilized course. That's ok with us, as we will return on our next NB visit.

My wife and I enjoyed our stroll on the beach. You can fine more sea shells there than in Myrtle beach. Lovely beach to go for a walk especially on a nice sunny day. The beach is long and goes for miles. The best times are early morning watching the sunrise or late afternoon at sunset.

Course has lot's of water, both regular and lateral hazards. Four fairways were also wet enough forcing cart path only on those holes. Greens were larger and in good shape for late November. Better low end Myrtle Beach area course.

Wonderful wide beach you can walk for hours, better than meditation, went there every day that the weather permitted. Stay here often when coming to the Myrtle Beach area. Like the NMB area best as it is not as congested and the crowed is a little less rowdy. Lots of families and not the party crowd like in Myrtle Beach.

Colonial Charters Golf Club

Wide fairways, very good greens and a great price make this course a must play for all golfers. The greens putt true, the fairways are good, and with the varied tees you can make this course as hard as you want to during your round. The afternoon rate may be the lowest on the strand. The combination of short, mid range and long par 4;s make the course a fun to play day. The short 9th par 3 is a water carry all the way but a fun hole to play. If you haven;t played Colonial recently, it is back and in good shape. A very nice course with exceptionally low rates.

The layout is decent, fairways are in bad shape. Sand is non existant in sand traps. Greens had very little grass but lots of sand.
No beverage carts, only when busy and it's understandable why they aren't busy.
Happy hour of $1.00 beers and hotdogs and the nice couple we met while golfing at least made the day enjoyable.

Duplin Winery

When you walk in the door you will be greeted with warm southern hospitality and will be welcomed into the Duplin family with open arms. Enjoy a wine tasting with our knowledgeable and friendly tour guides, sip sweet on the porch with your favorite Duplin wine, watch our hand bottling as we did it when we started and stroll our gift shop for wine and accessories.

Reviewed By Allan H - London, Canada

Duplin calls itself a winery but it is at heart just another tourist trap seeking to sell tacky souvenirs goods to gullible tourists. I've visited real wineries and this is not one. They might make some wine on the premises but whatever is made is produced from grapes grown many miles away.

T.I.G.E.R.S. Preservation Station

T.I.G.E.R.S. Preservation Station is quite possibly the country's only FREE living tiger museum. Located inside Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach, SC, it offers families the opportunity to see tigers up close, through glass, absolutely free of charge. For those interested in meeting a tiger or an ape in person, we offer (for a fee)the opportunity to pose with one of the animal ambassadors for a photo. The animals spend only a couple hours per day, in the late afternoon, at T.I.G.E.R.S. Preservation Station and funding generated from our photos and gift shop sales help support various wildlife conservation projects we conduct worldwide through our Rare Species Fund. We are open from mid-March to mid-October and hours of operation can be found by calling our listed telephone number.
