The 10 Best Things to Do in Lincolnshire, United States

September 26, 2017 Jeremy Dunfee

Lincolnshire is a village in Vernon Township, Lake County, in the U.S. state of Illinois. The village is a northern suburb of Chicago. The population of Lincolnshire was 7,275 at the 2010 census. Lincolnshire was incorporated on August 5, 1957, from the unincorporated Half Day area when land was purchased to build a residential subdivision. The community underwent an aggressive era of expansion from 1983 to the 1990s. The Des Plaines River bisects the village, passing from north to south; Illinois Route 22 also divides the village into two parts, crossing the village from east to west.

I have been shopping here FOREVER.
The Long Grove Confectionery Outlet offers great product; wonderful prices; samples to try before you buy; and really helpful, friendly sales people.
It's always a good idea to stop by after a holiday for the markdowns.
They are justifiably famous for their seasonal specialities -- molded chocolates, chocolate-covered strawberries, and hand-dipped caramel apples.

Marriott Theatre

Went with a bus group of theatre students to see Newsies at the Marriott Lincolnshire. The production was fast-paced and exciting to watch. The actors are so close and constantly moving around so everyone in the theatre could see them. The singing and dancing were very well done. Scene changes were quick as actors moved set pieces up and down the aisle. Looking forward to attending another production here, as it’s easy to get to and parking is free.

Edward L. Ryerson Conservation Area

We saw quite a few families enjoying the many activities at Ryerson....especially all the gorgeous fall photo ops!

Today the resident screech owl was meeting and greeting in the Welcome Center, Because of an eye injury, she cannot survive in the wild, so she lives at Ryerson. Her protective coloration is striking -- and watching her turn her head 270 degrees is fascinating. Owls have fixed eye sockets, so since they can't move their eyes, they have to turn their heads, Exorcist-style.

Another great activity was to get a free container of food (limit one per family per visit) at the Center to feed the chickens and sheep.

It was a perfect day to hike the leaf-covered trails to the Des Plaines river.

Independence Grove Forest Preserve

Lots of people love Independence Grove, which is most apparent on the weekends when the parking lot is full and there are no picnic sites available. Park is sometimes overrun with bicycles, trikes and strollers making it hard to walk and get around. If you like busy parks and crowds, this is for you. If you like quiet and more natural areas, other Lake County Forest Preserves are much more enjoyable.

Such comfortable reclining seats.....I worried that I would fall asleep and miss the movie. Fortunately, the film was quite engaging, so I was able to relax and watch without drifting off.

The parking lot remodeling is completed, and they were working on the landscaping when we visited today.
The remaining construction site will be apartment buildings.

You choose your seat(s) when you pay for it/them -- either in advance online or at the ticket window. The seating chart is easy to understand....and there really aren't any bad seats....especially in a theater with a curved screen.

Typically, there 7 or 8 rows, front to back, and 14 or so seats across. (There are larger and smaller theaters as well.)

And if you love the popcorn, there is now a microwave version available.

The wildlife discovery center is a hidden gem! It has lizards, snakes, crocodiles, birds of prey and even a bobcat. If you come at the right time, you can watch them train the siamese crocodiles, which is really cool! It is very interactive, more so in the summer when they have space to let the turtles out for kids to touch and they can bring the snakes outside and such. But very awesome all year round!

this was an amazing place for my teens they really enjoyed them selves now if you have knee problems or cant walk for an extended period of time don't go.. They need to have more seating in the course. It was a very hot day that we went and I was getting light headed and needed to sit down and they're was no place to sit... I love the way the course looked it just isn't very friendly to older people or heavier people..
