The 10 Best Things to Do in Lauderdale by the Sea, United States

January 8, 2018 Florencio Paulino

With 2.5 miles of beautiful beaches, an iconic pier and lovely ocean vistas, Lauderdale by the Sea is a small community that attracts visitors from around the world. Here low-rise downtown buildings and mid-century modern architecture exude old Florida charm, even as they celebrate the town’s present-day connection to the ocean — most hotels, restaurants and shops are just a few minutes’ walk from Anglin’s Square, a charming oceanfront gathering place.

Beach Pavilion

This place has it all and is a must see when you are in town. Its the central hub of the beach area and reminds me of a boardwalk you see on the Jersey shore. Its just a delightful place to sit and watch the waves of the ocean while you listen to live music ( most nights) from the close by restaurants

The view is magnificent and there is colorful Adirondack chairs to sit and relax in

The best brewery space aesthetics I have ever seen. There are lots of seats, and different seating arrangements. Even though there are often many patrons, very busy, the service was fantastic. The beer selection available is diverse and there are more taps than most brewed offer. Good snacks.

Anglins Fishing Pier

The pier goes for hundred feet into the ocean. It 's romantic enough to walk down this pier and look at the fish and sites and fishermen testing their luck. Snacks and beverages are available from concessions and the views are breathtaking. It should be free but I guess it's privately owned and maintenance is expensive?? A tourist destination at the end of Commercial Blvd.

Pompano Municipal Pier

Reviewed By Mary C - Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Often overlooked as being one of the BEST BEACHES in SE Florida. The City of Pompano Beach has completely updated the beaches with a beautiful walkway and tropical landscaping. There is plentiful parking (new covered parking garage). The beach offers: Volleyball Nets, bicycle rental, picnic & BBQs for grilling, picnic tables and covered pavilions all along the beach area, lifeguards, Splash Park for the kids, cabana and umbrella rental, and a beach grill offering beer, soda, homemade sandwiches, salads, pizza and hot dogs and only outdoor dining.

This beach is kept clean, and the sand is raked every day. The sand area is very spacious enough for large crowds; however, you will never see large crowds here because it's a well-kept secret as to how special this beach is. Currently in the works is a brand new BEACH-HOUSE, which will be offering a couple of restaurants, fast food, as well as nice dining (Italian), right on the beach which includes outdoor dining overlooking the beautiful ocean. There is large pier (currently closed until 2019 for repairs). Bring your own bait enjoy the fishing - and soon..The Yellow Water Taxi is coming to Pompano Beach.

Wiki: Pompano Beach is currently in the middle of a redevelopment process to revitalize its beachfront and historic downtown. The city has also been listed as one of the top real estate markets, being featured in CNN, Money and the Wall Street Journal as one of the country's top vacation home markets. Pompano Beach Airpark, located within the city, is the home of the Goodyear Blimp Spirit of Innovation.

This beach has a lot to offer and frequently hosts many events during the year including Seafood Festival, Music Under the Stars. Great place for a wedding on the beach as well. Don't pass this place up if you are in the area. This place needs to be marketed for the great value it has to people who really enjoy the outdoors and the ocean.

Garman Sculpture Works

World Famous, South Florida Artist, Sean Garman creates a mold directly from YOUR hands and then produces a beautiful, museum quality sculpture of YOUR HANDS that you will love forever and will be treasured in your family for generations! The molding process is fun and only takes anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour depending on the sculpture you want. Our Holding Hands mold process takes around 15 minutes and the Family Hands of 3 or more takes about 30 minutes. Body Sculptures can take a bit longer depending on the size and pose. When the mold is complete, the casting process begins. The mold is prepped and then the sculpture is cast in a very fine, architectural casting stone/cement that captures very fine detail and is durable enough to last for generations. When the casting is complete and the sculpture is fully dry, the finish is applied. You also have a choice of 3 finishes; Brass, Silver or Bronze. Add a beautiful wood base and your museum quality sculpture is complete!

I saw their page on facebook and although I live far away, my visit was worth every mile. What Sean does with his art is priceless. From the time you meet them, till the time you leave they treat you like family. They were so gracious and made my mom and I feel special. See my mom has been sick for a while and we have been in and out of hospitals. One night while holding her hand it came to me that Sean could memorialized such a special moment forever. So I called and the rest is history. Today I picked up my sculpture and it is amazing! I am forever thankful. I recommend it to anyone!!!

Even if you have folks who don't drink beer, it's a great experience to learn about the process.

Intracoastal Waterway

Navigate the canals that have earned Fort Lauderdale its nickname, "Venice of America."

Reviewed By Allen21096 - Chicago, Illinois

We happened to be on the Intracoastal Waterway (aka the ICW or I.C.W.) just before sunset. The scenery on the ICW changes constantly with different boats around you. There are many bars and restaurants along the ICW where you can dock your boat and go ashore to eat or have a cocktail. The skyline is ever-changing as are the sunsets. It would be a fun trip to take a tour boat along the ICW to learn more about the different buildings, homes or the history of the ICW.
