Requested a mountain bike to tour the dune area with all afternoon. I had a water bottle with me (it was going to be a hot day) but there was no bike with a bottle holder. Even though I didn't even explicitly ask, the nice employee grabbed his screw driver and mounted a bottle holder onto the bike on the spot. How's that for service?
Bike turned out to be of good quality, tires were pumped up to the right level and also have I never had even the slightest problem when switching gears. (Which I normally do with rental bikes because the dune area is quite demanding on this part.)
Prices are very reasonable. You can rent a helmet for free, and they have good maps of the area. One minor issue: I had to leave my driver's licence there as a deposit (not a problem in my case since I only rented the bike for the afternoon).
Be sure to take a ride in the dune area and you'll have a wonderful, sportive time!

I booked surf lessons here for my sons (both of whom have surfed before) during a short visit to Lacanau. The lesson was intended to be more advanced than a beginners lesson. However we felt that the class size was too big to allow much individual focus. There was one instructor for a group of 8-10 young people, all of whom had obviously surfed before. However our younger son (aged 12) struggled to get out through the surf, which is more powerful in Lacanau tan where he usually surfs in the UK, he became quite upset and No assistance or advice was offered to him. Our older son enjoyed the Surfing, but I am not sure what he gained from the lessons other than the safety of having the instructor around. Both boys agreed that the school we used the previous year was preferable.

If you don't like nature or walking then this isn't the place for! The nature reserve is beautiful and so calm. Once inside there's a viewing platform with a warden ready to help ID any birds you don't know. Today, must be my 5th or 6th visit, all at different times of the year. So far I have seen Osprey, Hobbies, Kingfishers, Spoonbills, Black Kites, Cranes and many more. If you have them, take your binns although the warden does offer you the use of his telescope. Dogs are allowed but on a lead.

I had my beginners lessons there and was satisfied. The location is fantastic, beautiful surroundings and prices are reasonable. UCPA manages the place and a hotel nearby, which is more like a youth hostel for people up to 35 years. You can get good value for money if you book the hotel with half day or full day golf together via ucpa.com, where 1 week holidays with golf lessons and full board cost approx. 600 euro. Lacanau is windy but also sunny, it's possible to golf there until November but I'd recommend to go there during summer to enjoy the beach at the same time.

Strongly recommended school.
From the receptionists to the teachers.
I had 2 different teachers for body-board, Cedric and Max, they were both excellent pedagogues.
They explained the theory(before), corrected (during) and gave advice (after). Like proper teachers. Always with a smile and a good vibe
If you have just a few days, in order to fully enjoy the waves, do body-board.

This place is renting surfboards like many places in Lacanau but not like some others they'll do it with a smile. Super friendly and efficient staff. Basic surfboards to hire but enough for beginners and intermediate surfers. It's location close to the beach is perfect. Spacious locker rooms are available and practical to get changed.

The groups are composed of 8 surfers maximum. 6 surfers per group for the mini surfers, 5 surfers per group for the advanced level. A comfort surf school : showers, toilets, changing rooms. I was staying at Les Grands Pins but wanted to hire from a school that had top quality boards in good condition which the school on site did not. I also like to support the smaller schools as this means tourists will always have a choice when it comes to lessons and hire. I was not disappointed.
Big Mama is a short walk from Les Grand Pins and is opposite the track that leads to Lacanua Ocean Nord. Very handy in the heat!
I hired for four days and was allowed to pick and choose my days over a seven day period. I found the paperwork and process very professional and was very impressed with their board choice. NSP is a much better board brand than BIC and they had a wonderful range. I started with a 7ft 6 and then went to a 7ft 2. I loved the 7ft 2 so much I am going to buy a 7,2 Magic Carpet in the UK.
The lady who helped me every day was brilliant and I was very grateful for her patience with my broken French! She also gave me a sticker for my car which I have put on and am delighted with it.
So if you need board hire or lessons this place is THE PLACE in Lacanua!
And it all comes with a smile.

Balade sur le lac de Lacanau accessible à tout âge. Petite pause au milieu du trajet sur une île.Moniteur très sympa. Je vous le conseille fortement pour passer un agréable moment en sachant que cette balade peut se faire au coucher du soelil.
