Just an hour drive from St. Petersburg is the Naval Cathedral in Kronstadt which is an active Russian Naval Base. The town was once closed to foreigners, but now everyone is allowed to visit. The Cathedral is a beautiful building that honors Russian sailors who perished at sea. There is no cost, so the drive is worthwhile. Public transportation is also available.

The is little to say about this very nice statue. However, he is facing a line of warships so that makes this spot pretty interesting.

Easy, unexpensive and comfortable way how to see several fortresses of Kronstadt is by 1 hour boat trip. The boat trip ends at one fortress linked by road to the Kronstadt island. The way back to the starting point is ensured by bus. On the board of the boat, a guide explains in Russian the history of the city and of the fortresses. No food or drinks are served on board of the boat.
The church in Kronstadt is worth the visit as well. The tourist information office located on the South of the city is very helpful and speaks English.

The Holy place,to pray for everyone! Holy righteous father John of Kronstadt was a great soul man,the shepherd of souls of the Orthodox! I recommend to visit this Museum,I hope that temple ,where he served as father John will be restored!

Что людям выжить помогла...
Эту крохотную, почти игольную, рыбку добавляли в качестве рыбной муки в блокадный хлеб, в скудную похлебку. Выживали как могли. Вечная память и вечная слава.

Я был в Военно-морских музеях всех флотов России и Центральном военно-морском музее, что называется в "официальных" музеях. Увидев не очень примечательный вход в этот музей, поначалу даже раздумывал, стоит ли подниматься на второй этаж (музей на втором этаже).. но поднявшись, был очень поражен. Оказывается, это ЧАСТНЫЙ музей (хотя на самом деле у него нет такого статуса) и создан он, энтузиастом своего дела, подводником, много лет прослужившим на Северном флоте! Всё полностью бескорыстно - БЕСПЛАТНО! Помещения музея - это просто съёмная квартира, которую человек снимает и отремонтировал на свои деньги. Он сам экскурсовод, интересный собеседник и приятный человек. Ориентирован музей на ДЕТЕЙ, профессионалам в этой области он мало что даст нового, но в данном случае это и не важно. Ставлю самую высокую оценку за саму идею и в знак признательности за труд этих людей. Всего ДВА зала - история водолазного дела и история Великой Отечественной войны. Разрешается фотографировать. Работает музей по ограниченному графику - четыре дня в неделю, причем неполный день. Обратите внимание на график работы на фотографиях входной двери. Музей рядом с центральной улицей (имени Ленина, естественно).

Interesting project,especially for kids! You can sail on a boat,pass through the fortification of the Fort,and participate in quests with pirates,my son liked to run around the Bastion with friends!
