Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary

In this unusual place of worship, mischievous simians throng among sacred temples and lush greenery.

Reviewed By Ravina89 - Ubud, Indonesia

It was calming to walk among the coolness of the forest and watch the monkeys who fearlessly approach visitors for food. Glad that they restrict this to bananas, but the clever chaps still go for anything shiny like water bottles and sunscreen tubes! If you observe all the rules of the sanctuary, the monkeys don't bother you at all.

And unjustifiably so....
The home of 1000 masks and 4000 puppets of different origins that are perfectly kept is astounding and well worth a visit. The Gardens surrounding the Houses are a treat to the eyes.
I urge you to make the detour for a visit when in Bali.

Taman Nusa

See Indonesia in One Afternoon! Taman Nusa is a cultural park that aims to offer a comprehensive information on the cultures of Indonesia's various ethnic groups in an attractive and interactive way, while enjoying the natural beauty of Bali.Situated on 15 hectares of land, visitors are invited to explore and experience Indonesia's journey throughout the ages beginning from the prehistory, bronze age, kingdoms, and an archipelago of Indonesian cultures. The journey continues to the early national era, independence, modern times and finally to the nation's future.

The entrance fee was steep. Place is well maintained and very clean. Interactive exhibits, some full sized models of traditional tribal houses. Emphasis seemed to be on more 'exotic' ethnic groups. Our guide spent a lot of time on the Papuan people, their housing, way of life etc. She gradually lost interest as time passed and we made our way to the exit.
The different entrance prices were not explained to us and we were sold tickets that included a 'free' drink, dressing in a native costume and a 'free' key chain. Not free and absolutely not worth any extra cost.

Turned up to have dinner and some drinks, quickly left without spending a penny after seeing the dolphin tank.
The pool was far too small for one dolphin to be kept in let alone two or three. The sides of the pool were green with algae so the up keep of the pool was to a minimum. The worst part is too see such beautiful animals in such a small pool. DO NOT GO HERE!

This was my favorite Bali experience! It was my 5th time to visit Ubud, and I'd never thought to do a biking tour! I sure am glad that I took the chance, and got away from the hustle and bustle of city life, and slowed down for a morning of slow riding along the roads and Neighborhoods surrounding Ubud. To feel the fresh morning air, to smell the fires and breakfasts cooking, to hear children's' laughter, and see authentic Balinese residents beginning their day, was to experience the REAL Bali!
Small groups (mine was 4 riders plus our great guide) was the reason I chose Bali 2000 over others. When I heard about the experience of others on another tour, I knew mine was better! It is locally owned, the bikes well maintained, and I was picked up right on time at my hotel and driven a few minutes to the company's owner's home where the equipment and crew were waiting.
On my tour, there was myself (62), and a father (40) and his two kids (10 and 17). We had a great time stopping at a local school to go inside, a temple, rice fields, and even a local swimming hole for a cool off dip! Any time we wanted to take a photo or ask questions or explore a site, our guide enthusiastically encouraged us. He was aware of fatigue, so kept a good pace and had plenty of water. (I also brought a protein bar)
On the way back, I felt my age... and a little worn out. I didn't want to slow down the group. When I mentioned it to our guide, he asked, "Do you want to ride in the car?"
Sure enough, there had been a car trailing us the whole three hours, driving on the road when we rode on narrow paths around rice fields, and keeping a good distance at other times, so that we had not even noticed it! With humble gratitude, I let them quickly take the wheel off my bike and store it in the back of the air conditioned SUV. I rode back, having a great conversation with the driver, yet still stopping and getting out to join my fellow cyclists when they stopped for a photo or other item of interest.
Listening to other tourists talk about their biking your experiences, I know I joined the BEST CYCLING TOUR in Ubud! Bali 2000 may be small and not as well advertised, but this is the real deal! Professional locals showing you the place they love... the place they call home. DO IT!
Bring: hat with visor, sunglasses, sunscreen, camera, snack.

Make sure you only get the show and nothing else as the others are simply a waste of time and money.

Beji Guwang Hidden Canyon

Reviewed By Karmatrendz - Jakarta, Indonesia

Located at Sukawati area, this is the place where you can enjoy exciting adventures and adrenaline pump. It's definitely not for children or elderly. Visit this hidden canyon at summer because sometimes they close the attraction because of the river or dam or weather, and it's too dangerous.
You must use a local guide to lead the way for you and this is a must, don't ever think because you're an expert rock climbing, powerful bla bla bla then you refuse to use a guide. Two year ago this place is very difficult to track, but now the local guide make it easier but still need a lot of effort to walk from start to the end. So follow exactly what the local guide told you. Wear a short pants and bring small backpack, because at certain point you'll get wet. Maybe better a pants like for swimming or for the beach. Some people prefer to walk in the water, but perhaps walk or swim in the water more dangerous than climb or crawl the cliff, because you don't know under water landscape, maybe there's sharp rocks or anything that'll harm you. Don't ever afraid or shy to ask the guide to help you walk or climb...
The canyon it self was spectacular, amazing and jaw falling scenery. It's really worth every single step you walked. The water color, the cliff color and rocks everywhere so beautiful, like walk in the other world. Near the end of the track, you'll find a swing made by local people, so you can take photos.
Please give a decent tip to the local guide, because their income was so small for a single trip to guide a guest. Sometimes when the attraction closed due to the weather, so they get nothing. Maybe they should consider to raise ticket fee, right now the ticket fee too cheap.

What a magnificent place. We went yesterday and my partner proposed to me having lunch over the private eating overlooking the rice field.
The food was amazing, the setting was beautiful and was one of the most beautiful places to visit.
The pork ribs we had Australian and local and they were Devine.
A must do in Ubud.
