Junagadh pronunciation (help·info) is the headquarters of Junagadh district in the Indian state of Gujarat. The city is the 7th largest in Gujarat, located at the foot of the Girnar hills, 355 km south west of state capital Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad. Literally translated, Junagadh means "Old Fort". An alternate etymology gives the name as coming from "Yonagadh", literally "City of the Yona (Greeks)," referring to the ancient inhabitants of the city under the Indo-Greek Kingdom. It is also known as "Sorath", the name of the earlier Princely State of Junagadh. After a brief struggle between India and Pakistan, Junagadh joined India on 9 November 1947. It was a part of Saurashtra state and later Bombay state. In 1960, after the Maha Gujarat movement, it became part of newly formed Gujarat state.

If you do not start the climb too early in the morning, then it will be too late for you when you reach the top. It is said that the whole journey takes 10,000 steps with a lot of beauty along the way to take in.
We started at around 4 am and it took well over 3 and a half hours to finish the climb (Photography sessions in the middle included). The sun had already risen in the sky up above so high. It helped to bring down the chills we had from cold winds along the way.
If you are able to finish the first 3000 steps (The hardest part), the the rest of the journey will not be that difficult. The fatigue here is a mix of climate and increase in potential energy, with partial thinning of air causing scarcity of Oxygen (And life all the same).
Must visit place to check your stamina. and also if you wanna throw something or someone off after you have enjoyed the views from up above.

Everybody visits to see the rare Asiatic Lions. So did we. We did see 13, some close by, in 5 drives over 3 days. Very good photos. There is the chance of a surprise sighting but most of the action is timed by rangers on motor bikes/ bikes who herd lions out into view at set times. All the drivers/ guides know this so wait around. If you're lucky with a good driver ( tips help!!) you get into best places.
The park is scenic and very varied terrain.
Tips: negotiate a good tip for guide at outset and they will look after you. Remember 1200 r camera charge per day in cash.

Sakkarbaug is a zoo-governed zoo garden. You have to pay a fee to go inside here. Especially young children are able to get enjoyment into this zoo. In Zoo, many species of animals such as lion, tiger, deer, crocodile, monkeys, bear etc. are found.

Beautiful architecture. The level of detail is amazing. Personally, I felt that we could do some more work to make the place look better. Not necessarily taking away the originality but just in terms of cleanliness, upkeep or we risk losing it to our environment.

Well this is one of the famous Beaches in Porbandar Junagadh area...also the longest one....this is parallel to the highway of Somnath to Dwarka....the sea is always special when you came here...a good place to enjoy...the water is is very deep so don't go for swim....also beach is very clean..you can enjoy coconut water and camel ride.....overall a must watch beach ....also there is one place at the beach where river finishes in sea...which is very beautiful to sea

I thought the whole place was really atmospheric and interesting. From the drive up through narrow passageways; to the viewpoints over the city and surrounding mountains; to the crumbling yet in places amazingly beautiful buildings; to the eagles wheeling overhead (never seen so many) and a family of pigs (my favourite animal, it was a breed I've never seen before); to the incredible stone water tank, where we took steps right down into the earth and there was no-one there but us- all felt like an adventure.
The whole site needs a bit more love- there is too much rubbish and not enough information points. If they did that this would be a real jewel but it is already a very special place.

This is another temple situated on the hills. When you starting to climb the hills first is jain temple than goddess ambe temple and than finally Dattatray temple. This goddess ambe temple is very much popular in gujarat. Other temples of ambe maa located in various places. Here newly married couples are coming for taking blessing of goddess. Total steps are 10000 around. Advice to go in winter not in summer.
