Your visit to Jaisalmer is incomplete without visiting this magnificent place located around 110 kms. from Jaisalmer town which is around 3 hours drive and yes it is totally worth it. The roads leading to Longewala are smooth and you will find vast open spaces of the Thar Desert on either side of the road. The Yudh Sthal showcases the factual account of the 1971 war that took place here and it has on display captured tanks, guns, artillery etc. that were left behind by the retreating army. It also highlights the glorious and selfless contribution of the officers and jawans who risked everything in the line of duty and their unflinching dedication to the protection of the nation. A museum in the compount exhibits all the relevant information about the war which is descriptive. A visit to this place also brings out the nostalgic memories of those events and a chance to be proud of our Army who despite all adversities defend the security and sovereignty of the nation. It is a must visit destination of the Jaisalmer itinerary. Period.

The Golden jaisalmer fort is one of the prime most attraction and a symbol of Royal Rajasthan.. A fort..with yellow sandstone wall surrounded fortress..the maximum part inside fort is is house..people resides for generations..many turned into staying options..with shop n restaurants in many.. The main tourist attraction is jain temples..3 cannons ..with city view point and obviously the main building- The Fort Palace Museum or Raja ka mahal..the preferable Audio guided tour makes a good trip with rich history n exhibits and sandstone crafting masterpiece architecture inside the palace.. The shop inside the fort is for good buy of Rajasthani crafts n mementoes.. with good food of different taste available.. A sunset n sunrise time at Cannon point is a must do.. Make planmess trails of the lanes..explore the haveli like houses..feel the pulse of the life inside the fort..have a full day time to explore it..to feel the real hues of the fort.. It gonna be a lifetime experience indeed...

A 3 hr safari in the DNP was the highlight of our trip to Jaisalmer. I recommend going early, to get past the checkpost at sunrise. In March, we saw many unusual birds: the critically endangered great indian bustard, cinereous and griffon vultures, eastern imperial eagle, trumpeter finch, the isabelline and desert wheatears, black-crowned sparrow lark and the greater short-toed lark. Best of all, they were easy to spot in the wide open desert and made for some wonderful photographs against the dunes. There is very limited traffic here: most people head for the dunes for a camel safari instead, and that too later in the day. So if you are interested in wildlife, do NOT miss this!

Beautiful landscape. Total desert. Nice to see Indira Gandhi Canal full of water after Ramgarh. You can see vegetation & farms near the canal. It is very near to Pakistan border. Last civilian point in India on border. Tanot Rai Mata Temple is an old temple with a history of India Pakistan war of 1965. Hundreds of shells fallen here did not harm the temple. Some bombs are in display at temple. Maintained & managed by Border Security Force of India. Keep food & water with you. Very few population.

120 kms from Jaisalmeer will take 90 to 100 mints to reach there . Get a sanction from Jaisalmeer office for visiting the India - Pak boarder . A signed application along with ID prof need to be submit. Tanot Mata temple is an old temple with a history of India Pak war in 1965. The village is close to the border with Pakistan ( 17kms from Pakistan) and is very close to the battle site of Longewala of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 The temple is managed and Maintained by BSF ( Border Security Force ) . Hundreds of shells fallen here did not harm the temple . Some bombs ???? are in display at the temple . The shelling on Tanot Mata during 1971 Indo-Pak War was depicted in 1997 Bollywood war film Border.

Very well laid out, neat and clean, spotless clean place a typical trade mark of Indian Armed Forces, one gets transported to a different world on entering any Army establishment, as they are so well presented. This museum is show casing the history and progress made by the Indian Army over the years to become one of the most professional army in the world. There is a 15 minutes video show throwing light on the army and the way it fought successful wars against Pakistan. Number of tanks and air crafts are displayed in the lawns. There is very nice restaurant on site. I would say its a must visit for every Indian visiting this part of the country.

The village is a ruin, with stories of it being abandoned overnight after the then Dewan of Jaisalmer, Salim Singh asked for a girl from here. Though the story displayed here mentions of reasons like Drought, Earthquake and punishing ways of the dewan, but the story among the people is that dewan wanted/ exploited a girl from the village. The story further goes that the parents murdered the girl, smeared few houses with her blood and then along with the rest of the inhabitants left the village, cursing the dewan and vowing never to come back. One can be engulfed with sadness as well seeing the dilapidated state of village though the Govt has made some model structures for people to engage in photography, etc. I had the same feelings as I had when visited Hiroshima (Japan). Still worth visiting and going around the houses. No one is seen here after sunset!
