Diana's Gift Shop

Reviewed By A TripAdvisor Member - Farrell, Pa

My friends and I love to shop.

We went to Diana's little gift shop.
She has antiques, handmade soaps & lotion, hand crocheted hats, handmade jewelry, vintage jewelry, old records, vintage linens, collectibles, even school supplies -and way too much else to mention.

I know my girls and I will be back.

I grabbed a card from the gift shop. Here's the address and other info:

(She is only open a few days a week -so check the website first. It's back on a little country road and there is a map on the website too.)

Daffin's Candies

Reviewed By Pineapple62 - Medina, Ohio

I've been going to Daffin's since a teenager. I'm now 37. Every few years when I drop in it becomes less & less about the chocolate and more about licensed merchandise. It's 60% greeting cards, Jelly Belly merch, purses, necklace charms, glass knickknacks, bookmarks, stuffed animals, candles, coasters and did I mention greeting cards??

The candy counter is still fully stocked - my husband bought a $10 assortment and the chocolate actually tasted bitter and old when we got to the car. We all know that "old" taste. Like when you find a piece of candy in your junk drawer in the kitchen. You eat it and you know you shouldn't have.

Daffin's, although interestingly enough to stretch your legs on a weekend trip, has lost it's magic for me.

The candy aisle that has chocolate cigars, gum, mints, little chocolate cars, oversized candy candy, etc is just prepackaged, find-anywhere candy. That is NOT Daffin chocolates. Every gift shop in the USA has those tiny cars. And gourmet lollipops. I live near that lollipop factory in Ohio so I know it's NOT Daffin's!

This is one of the best outdoor gardens in the area. I often drive up from Pittsburgh just to walk the grounds. The rose garden is spectacular overlooking the lake, but the variety of other flowers and plants is remarkable. Everything is well marked and you can usually find a volunteer around that will be more than willing to answer your questions or take a picture for you.

Collection: Checkout collection highlights before a trip to fully appreciate the range of the fine American art. Also special exhibits of high interest. A bit surprised to see trend to solicit donations for art restoration. I am so happy that I visited the gallery, but it seems that times may be trying in Youngstown.
Building: Housed in a stately building with a glass walkway to the former First Christian Church. If lit, the restored Butler Northern Great Hall would have been beautiful. The main building atrium is a grand setting for art.
Location: Downtown Youngstown with free parking. Visited on December 23 in early afternoon and not many around. Easy short trip from Ohio Turnpike.

Lanterman's Mill

Reviewed By Barbara R - Erie, Pennsylvania

What a picturesque building. It reminds me of McConnell Mill in Butler, Pa. Only bigger. There is a nice little gift shop to the left as you enter. You pay a small admission price and a local person gives you some history of the mill. There seems to be four levels to it. Very sturdily built. When you leave the mill, there is a covered bridge very close by which is very well maintained. Nice place!
