Huanchaco Beach

Reviewed By annarc6 - Philadelphia, New York

We visited on a Sunday, and it was packed with locals. It was very entertaining to see the families having a good time. The waves were quite big. The biggest attraction for us as visitors were the reed boats, which have been used for fishing for over 2000 years. They are still in use. Or you can ride in one (with a guide) for $5. They have to dry by hanging upright in the sand—very interesting!

Museo de Sitio de Chan Chan

Chan chan is a centuries old ancient complex that has been pretty well preserved due to dry weather.
it's a pretty easy place to visit. Any collectivo going from Trujillo to Huanchaco and vice versa drops you off at the side of the road and from there it's about a 10-15 minute walk to the main entrance.
I went mid week in the morning and it was pretty empty almost had to it myself. You can get a guide at the entrance. I didn't get one as I rarely do but was able to get a written guide in English that gave a reasonable description of each place. If money is not a big deal I think a guide would be good as I still found myself wondering what something was for. It is about 60-90 minutes to walk around. It definitely a place worth visiting if you are in the area.

I' staying right down the street and wanted to check out the restaurants closer to my hostel. Corazon Verde is about a block away. I had hoped for a brownie and juice, but alas, those had sold out, so the Carrot cake and maracuya juice filled the bill. Lots of nice items for sale in the shop, some interesting art, and yes, the people are first class.

Our ship stopped in Salaverry, and it was about a 30 minute taxi ride to get here... then waiting maybe 15 minutes for the English tour to start, then maybe a 45 minute tour. Very worthwhile. Some people won't be able to navigate the steps to get there, but once there, it's not too difficult.

PERUVIAN PASO HORSE AND MARINERA NORTENA.... the best and only show in Peru...MORE THEN 40 MINUTES OF SHOW!!! we are located in the corner of Via Evitamiento km567 and Calle "El Palmar"..right beside Tecsup

Reviewed By Emma E - Leeds, United Kingdom

This was a fantastic show for anyone who loves/likes/has an interest in horses. The place is very basic but there was no need for anything that was not there. It was quite a short show but you learnt a lot about the horses and the local dances. It was great to see the dancers dance with horses. The guys who own/run it were very kind and helpful. They booked us a taxi as it is quite far out from the town. It was a shame that there were only 3 paying audience there (us included) as the show deserves a much bigger audience but the performers and horses performed as if it was a full house. There are 2 shows a day so maybe the later one was busier and it was midweek.
