Wonderment Puppet Theater is a year round magical little theater for children as well as grownups producing 6 original shows a year. We are open Saturday and Sunday with show time at 1 pm. Doors open at 12:40 pm. Lots of hands on activities before the show. We are the only full time theater in WV.

Wonderful surprise - a stone's throw from C&O Canal bike path. Met by informative and entertaining staff in Colonial garb. Fascinating history from days when Maryland was the western frontier, as well as Revolutionary War and Great Depression eras. Set in a beautiful (and apparently under-visited) State Park. A great visit.

Jason and Sera are building an AMAZING Outdoor Classroom - the right way!! I attended the Mountain Craft/Primitive Skills Workshops this Fall. The Quality of Instructors was top notch but equally impressive was the Community they are building. Attendees became friends and freely shared their knowledge and frustrations-trial-and-errors as we all learned, tried and tested our skills. I was introduced to a whole new vocab - Flint Knapping(making tools from stone), Cordage (making rope from natural fibers, plants, leaves) Medicinal and Edible Herbs were fun to search for on their extensive property with an emphasis in planting more for us to find and use in the future. The stream provided a natural way of cleaning Gourds to prep for making bowls. The ponds provided a challenge to this novice fly-fisher (catch-n-release). The musicians were top notch and shared their talents with others especially at the Ancestral Fire -Great Way to open and close each day. Needless to say - I will be back with some additional friends in 2017 or sooner as they offer regular classes in Primitive Skills and Herbal/Apothecary 101-102., knife making, tanning hides, etc.. look them up on the Web. :-)

Locally owned and operated orchard and farm market only minutes from I-81 and between the communities of Hagerstown, MD and Martinsburg, WV. Because of our popularity and the quality of our products, we also serve many customers from the Winchester, VA area and parts of Western, MD and PA. We offer fruits and vegetables when in season grown on the farm and harvested from our orchards. We also offer natural grown beef from our farm and seasonal flowers, plants, pumpkins, mums and other decorative items such as corn stalks, hay bales and gourds. Deer apples are available every Fall season!

This place is really professionally done. They have groceries they sell from local farmers/food artisans year round, like homemade ice cream, eggs, and milk. They also sell canned stuff from Lancaster, semi handmade. In growing seasons they have their own produce and plants to sell, including apples in fall. You can pay with a credit card and the staff is always professional and nice.

What a gem. Great information about the history of the C&O Canal. Wonderful video with film footage shot at the time the canal was busy. The Cushwa Basin is at the Williamsport site where coal from Cumberland arrived by canal barge and was transferred to the railroad.

My experience is based on an autumn drive-through, not for any activities other than viewing the leaves and stopping for a few pictures.
I discovered Sleepy Creek WMA quite by accident. While reading the West Virginia Forestry's weekly update on leaf color, it was mentioned that a drive through SCWMA might be worth it. Since we were heading to that part of WV, anyway, we decided to take the suggestion, and we were not disappointed.
For fall colors at peak, it was gorgeous. There was vibrant color on all sides of the five miles in and out of the area, plus in all the forests that line the banks of the lake. We stopped at a boat launch at the northern end and got some wonderful views of the lake and trees, then we found a couple of other roads that led through some campgrounds and to the lake for more views.
The road inside the WMA is dirt and gravel, and we had to dodge a few ruts and potholes, but we weren't expecting a paved thoroughfare. (Not sure what it would be like after a rain.)
Thank you, WV Forestry, for giving us tips on off-the-beaten paths to explore. You have a beautiful state!

The award-winning Canal Quarters program, managed by the C&O Canal Trust, offers six historic lockhouses available for overnight stays. Each sleeps up to 8 people. Three of the lockhouses are rustic, two have full amenities, and one has only electricity. Prices range from $110 to $160 per night. Lockhouse 49 depicts the heyday of the canal community at Four Locks during the 1920s. It is located on the towpath at mile 108.7 in the C&O Canal National Historical Park. Living near this attraction has enabled me to watch it grow up if you will. Before Government funding the area had been left to deteriorate. Much has changed for the better over the years, offering a variety of history, beauty, nature, and entertainment.

We visited for the MSAHF craft fair and were amazed at the historical value and history of this site. While there we were blessed with the chance to speak to William Taylor (one of the last employees to work at this site) who educated us on the history. This place needs some help to keep it preserved and from what we could see they've done an amazing job so far with the limited resources available. We hope to visit again in the spring with our adult children. A town rich in history and must see site!

Nice big rest area with 3 geocaches on the property and the man working the info. center gave me some needed hints to get the new cache open. Lots of info. about the area inside and very helpful about things to do in the area .Very clean restrooms.

Don't miss a visit to Sleepy Creek Spa which is located at The Woods in WV. I have had facials in NY, San Francisco, Colorado and South Carolina and none can come close to the facial at Sleepy Creek Spa. Ask for Kim. She is deliberate, quiet and thorough. The Caviar Facial is the best, especially when combined with any facial waxing you need. They also offer massages and salon services. And they have a great selection of Bare Minerals skin care products (which can be hard to find.)
