They have the best pies in the area--probably in the state. Fruit pies, custard pies, anything. All at reasonable prices. Caution: they only available on Fridays, and they usually sell out early. You can pre-order them so you won't be shut out. They also baked a variety other things. The will take special orders for things like sugar free items. In addition to the baked goods, they have a large variety of local fruits and vegetables that are in season. Be sure to go in the springtime to check out a large variety of plants and flowers

At Conyngham Brewing Company we maintain an ever rotating and very diverse selection of eight to twelve of our hand crafted beers on tap. All of our beers are brewed with all natural ingredients, never extracts or artificial flavors. To further this ideal we maintain a local farm where we produce many of the specialty ingredients found in our beers. Please note no one under 21 is permitted at the brewery. We do not have an onsite kitchen but nearby restaurants will deliver to the brewery or you are welcome to bring in your own food.

Hey Barry interesting range of craft beers, all serve very cold. The bartender who may have been the owner really knew his stuff and described the various ingredients at the brewery used. The old fashion ambience added a very nice touch. But, beer, beer, beer.

Maylaths has been around for years. It is a working farm in central Pennsylvania but in the fall they open up to the public for outdoor activities such as a big corn maze, hey rides and all kinds of old fashioned fall season fun. Lots of stuff for the kids to do and the corn maze is one of the best and is a real challenge to get through. Basic admittance is free and they charge just for things you do, you buy tickets for each thing you want to do. There are plenty of pumpkins to buy of all sizes!

Eckley Miners' Village

Reviewed By Fur4four - Rochester, New York

Lengthy tour given by a docent with first hand knowledge of the life of a miner. She is the daughter of a PA coal miner. Would have been nice to see the inside of more houses, but you visit enough to get a flavor of the miners' lives. Learning about the Molly Maguires and their struggle for unions would be an appropriate lecture, but I'm not sure they were even mentioned. I purchased a pamphlet in the gift shop to learn more about the Mollies but it was so one sided and anti-Molly it can't be believed. Visit the Old Jail Museum in Jim Thorpe for a more realistic lesson on the Mollies. The Village is still worth a visit and the museum in the front building should not be missed. Be prepared to walk over a mile.

Hometown Farmer's Market

Reviewed By twocapemay - Pennsylvania

Haven't been here in years. Thought I'd give it a try again. Although most of my favorite vendors are still here, some of them have been replaced with cheap merchandise stands.

The Amish pie & dessert stand was still there. Only place in the area that makes homemade raisin pie!!!! Don't leave without getting a shoe fly pie, apple dumplings & their thick & moist peanut butter cookies.

Order the whole rotisserie chicken at the other Amish stand & don't forget the baked potatoes which are baked right under the chickens & covered in crispy chicken drippings. Stop at one of the farmers' stands for a fresh vegetable & you have your dinner to take home.

Great barbecue stand that not only serves brisket, baked beans, coke slaw, pulled pork but a pulled chicken sandwich served on a hearty roll.

Just ask anyone there, "where do I get that good cheese?" & everyone knows what you mean! The cheese stand has the best aged cheddar you'll ever eat!

All in all, the food here is fabulous but the shopping has turned from "a good deal" to "cheap stuff". Miss all the coin dealers from the past & the good quality clothing. Still some nice stuff (outdoor carpeting, antiques) but few & far between.
