Bully Hill Vineyards Winery

Located in the heart of the Finger Lakes wine country, this family-owned winery is popular for its humorous tours, spectacular scenery and artsy wine labels.

My wife and I recently visited this winery. It is a fairly large complex with something for everyone: nice view of Keuka Lake; free parking; tasting room; sweet wines; dry wines; tours; wine museum; restaurant; and a nice gift shop. We did a tasting which costs $1 per sample. They have a fairly extensive selection of dry and sweet wines (of both vinifera and labrusca varieties). Found the tasting to be a bit rushed and lacked a bit of the personal attention experienced in some tasting rooms. We did find and purchase two dry wines that we liked. We also visited the gift store and purchased a gift with a discount received in the tasting room. Believe most visitors will find something to like about this winery.

Heron Hill was, by far, our favorite of all the wineries we visited during our stay at Keuka Lake. The building itself is beautiful, the atomosphere is nice without being too party-ish or too stuffy. The wineslinger knew her stuff as well. And the wine? SUPER easy to drink (and I'm definitely not a wine connoisseur!). We will be returning to this place during our next trip up.

Three of us stopped here on a whim on a Wednesday around 11:30am and there were a few people already enjoying some wine. We did a sampling of 5 different wines with a small cheese plate ($3/ea for the tasting and $6 for the cheese plate). For red wines, the Maximilien was the favorite. The preferred white, and overall winner for our group, was the Chardonnay. It was very good, not overly dry but just right. I will say that the Rose was also very good. I felt like their prices were very reasonable and we all enjoyed our experience. The view of Keuka Lake is definitely an added bonus!

I had no idea there were so many boat builders in the Finger Lakes in years past. Amazing to see the many styles and types of craft that were made in small shops and even in local people's garages. A group of volunteers were working to restore a tourist boat in their shop and were most anxious to share what they were doing with us. Very interesting!

Lime Berry Winery

Reviewed By DelawareLax - Delaware, Ohio

An unpretentious winery with out of this world wines. Run by Joe and Melissa Carroll. this winery was easily our favorite stop on the trail. It was the only winery we visited where we enjoyed everything served to us. The tasting room is an old school house and it's a fitting place to learn from Joe about the art and accident of wine-making. His best advice to us was to always ask pourers to show us their new or unique wines - some great advice for learning the various grapes and hybrids throughout the region.

At Lime Berry, Joe is working on a new grape from Cornell, yet unnamed, that he bottles as Heart of the Lake. It's a winner, nicely balanced, and you can only find it there. His Chancellor is also very good. We tend to like dry wines, and his Rieslings and Francs are wonderful, but his sweet wines are great, too. We had a nice stop there - sat outside and enjoyed a dry Riesling with some bread, salami and cheese, a relaxing time away from crowds and a great way to begin our day on the trail. We ended up purchasing a mixed case, and I sure hope to go back soon to see what else is new at Lime Berry.

Pleasant Valley Wine Company

Reviewed By Julie B - Sherwood, Oregon

While there's a small museum and of course wine/sherry/champagne tasting, the tour really makes the visit to Pleasant Valley shine. They have numerous buildings on the National Register of Historic Places and have the dubious honor of being US Bonded No. 1 (first winery to be taxed in the US). After climbing into a van, tour-takers are driven back up the hill and across the street to wander through some of the original stone and wood buildings. See massive Redwood tanks (yes Redwood!), learn of the winery's history and its unique Solaire and fractional blending method for making sherry, and marvel at the architecture, wine barrels, and furnishings. Before planning your outing, be sure to call the winery. They are often short-staffed and tours may only run on weekends, generally on the hour from 11am-3pm.

We almost passed right by this winery, which is in a small farmhouse and easily overlooked. But we were so glad we stopped. These were the best dry whites we had anywhere, and the several Rieslings we tried were all top notch. After praising them effusively, we got a little sample of their $40 variety thrown in. It was indeed delicious. My husband tried several dry reds and said they were all excellent too. There's no restaurant or patio here, and not a lot of space, but it's a must if you're a serious wine drinker who likes it dry. One of our favorites.

Offering delicious, hand crafted, German style wines for everyone to enjoy!

Reviewed By Werner B - Hammondsport, United States

We live in the Finger Lakes, and we have been to many, many wineries here and abroad. Have even been to the Mosel and Konstanz wine regions in Germany. As such, when we heard that a new German-style wineryhad opened so close to home, we had high expectations. This is a very small wine tasting room, tucked away on a side street off State Route 54 on the east side of Keuka Lake. On entering, we were very warmly greeted, and were able to taste in a peaceful atmosphere. Our server (the fiancée of the winemaker) was charming and quite informative about the wines. And what wines! I grew up drinking German whites, and these were on par with the best I have had. Nicely balanced, very reasonably priced (actually a bargain for the quality). And if you like port, spring for the extra $1 fee to try theirs. Magical, and better than some of the pricier ones from Portugal. In just a few short months of being open, these folks have put together something that will prove to be one of the premier spots for wine connoisseurs. I will look forward to restocking my cellar with their bottles, and watching them grow! Zum wohl!
