Gudauri (Georgian: გუდაური) is a ski resort located on the south-facing plateau of The Greater Caucasus Mountain Range in Georgia. The resort is situated in the Stepantsminda District, along the Georgian Military Highway near the Cross Pass, at an elevation of 2,200 meters (7,200 ft.) above sea level with skiable area enjoying maximum exposure to the sun. Gudauri lies 120 km (75 mi) to the north of the capital Tbilisi and two hours drive from the Tbilisi International Airport or even a short helicopter flight from the capital. The resort offers high quality skiing opportunities. The slopes of Gudauri are completely above the tree line and are best for free-riders and are generally considered to be avalanche-safe. The ski season lasts from December to April. Heliskiing is also available throughout the season.

We went as a group of 7, some beginners and some advanced or at least skied or snowboarded before.
They have instructors that can give you lessons...they're about 35-45 GEL each hour...which is not bad.
They also have paragliding (250 GEL) and snowmobiling.
They got a handful of chairlifts that go very high up the mountain. When we went to the top, it was very foggy so we had pretty much zero visibility but the staff are nice and they have staff going down the slopes consistently to make sure no one goes off the course.
They got restaurants and bars throughout the slopes and stalls with mulled wine which is awesome after snowboarding.
The only thing is after we left this resort...after a few weeks, there was a big chairlift accident where the chairlifts malfunctioned and started going backwards at high speeds. A few people got injured and no one died so that's good. Just ask the staff ahead of time to make sure all is safe! Also...ski passes were 40 GEL for a full day (10am til 5pm)

We stopped here for an hour on our way to Stepatsminda to admire the outstanding nature around. The Caucasus Mountains were covered with first snow, and the skies blue which made a postcard setting.
Kind employee asked me for paragliding and the price was pretty lower than in Europe. I watched the other guy paragliding and I hesitated for half an hour. Now, I'm deeply sorry I didn't. All the best guys, see you again to fly.

this is a very personal opinion, as i found this monstrous wall with arched pillars, just out of place and an absolute eyesore in such a pristine setting. They could've come up with something much better, and suitable to the setting, than this ugly ill-fitting piece! its right next to the highway after Gudauri, hence not really required to plan separately for this place

Because it s impossible to book a bath by internet if you don t speak georgian or russian ,i contacted them by email . they replied , and i booked by email 2 days before . when we reached by walk the tsar bani , after cutting our ski day (with a kid) , they received us with a non booking ! the guy was in Russia and did not transmit the booking !!!!! and no option ...............upset again !!!

We visited Gudauri on our way to Stepatsminda. It was our tourist, sightseeing journey, not skiing holiday.
I'm a skiing fan and it was interesting for me to examine the area. I saw many hotels, old and new being built, just by the ski slopes which is rare in Europe, and where it exists it costs a fortune. Here, I found the prices very attractive and affordable. Also the terrain looks very inviting so I will surely come back for skiing.

Some attractions get onto a tour group’s itinerary because they happen to be on the way to the next city of importance, are somewhat interesting, and make for a good bathroom break, like the Ananuri Fortress (see my Tripadvisor review). In this case, our tour group was on our way from Tbilisi to Stepantsminda and Mount Kazbek (see my Tripadvisor review), and the mineral Springs were right alongside the road. Perhaps if the water had not been so metallic and bitter in taste – therapeutic is what I was told, poisonous is what I thought - I could have forgiven that there was NO bathroom facilities. But the water WAS horrible… and there were no bathroom facilities. I was NOT impressed!

I had booked a 3 day package with Heliskir and did not regret it. Although conditions were more than challenging with warm weather and rain up to 2600m altitude Daniel the lead guide found good snow and flight windows. Lots of experience between these guys, they dug snow profiles first and if in doubt about a slope they would rather have us picked up by the helicopter than ski down. A few great days, I would definitely chose them again. The pilot and helicopter were both German hence no doubt about the material either.

Paradise of snow with all winter sport activities. There are 3 cable car station, the first one in operation even during hard weather(Perveli). Bargain for the sport activities as you can get good discount. The fee for the cable car is appox 6 Gel.Try to avoid visit during harsh snowfall as the road might be blocked to travel back to Tbisili.

The place is rather neglected and not well kept. It importance is the story of German prisoners who worked on the military road as prisoners.
