Blue Lagoon Iceland

Named in 2012 as one of National Geographic's “25 Wonders of the World," Blue Lagoon has evolved from its infancy as a Reservoir of geothermal runoff into a world of geothermal wonder. The unique properties of its waters provide not only an enchanting lagoon experience, but also the patented, active ingredients in Blue Lagoon skin care: silica, algae, and minerals. Blue Lagoon is located in a sprawling, 800 year old lava field in the heart of the Reykjanes Peninsula – a UNESCO Geopark. Just 20 minutes from Keflavík International Airport and 50 minutes from Reykjavík, Blue Lagoon is simultaneously remote and easily accessible.

One of the highlights of our Iceland trip! Our 9 and 13 year old boys had a great time.
Service and staff are excellent (notably so, since the booking experience and cancellation policy suggested a less customer-friendly approach).
The only little crib is the limited food options. If you don’t want to spend $200 at the Lava restaurant, your only other option is the cafe with pre-made sandwiches, salads etc. Hot, reasonably priced food (think pizza, soup, burgers) would be great after you are done in the lagoon.

Went on the back of my partner and what a ride!! The best 'rollercoaster' ride I've ever had!!! The weather was blue skies and sunny after a lot of snow so the scenery was spectacular too!! Our guide rode in front and took us up and down slopes and through deep snow stopping at the top of a small hill to get a wonderful view even looking down on the Blue lagoon which we were going to later.

Gunnuhver Hot Springs

Reviewed By Diona F - London, United Kingdom

We came here as we were staying in nearby Grindavik and storms had made most other travel fairly impossible. We probably wouldn't have made it to Gunnuhver had this not been the case, but we are so glad we got to see it. It's really impressive the contrast between the gushing hot spring and the freezing ice and snow was spectacular. Just down the road from the spring is the coast, where we spent some time watching the wild winter waves crashing against the rocks. It was simply fabulous.

Loved doing this. There's nothing like Icelandic horses. They're like giant puppies. So loving and gentle. If you're at all into horses take the two hours to do this.

We went during the Winter time just before a storm hit Iceland. The waves here were huge and the coastline looked very dramatic great for photographs. The scenery is stunning.
We didn't spend long here as it was very cold and windy but well worth visiting in the summertime.

I love Lighthouses and their symbolism and hope for humanity.
I loved the wreckage and the symbolism about the strength of nature.
Walk or drive this amazing area.
Read about and see the remains of the wrecks...Old wrecks and newer wrecks.
Imagine the heroism of rescuers and the horrible strength of the storms that brought ships them to their ends.
Lighthouses may be mans best attempt at humanity!

If you have time to kill in the Grindavik area this is a nice place to visit, you can see the ruins and walk on the beach. No crowds, but again this is not a major destination spot, but a wonderful place to go if you have an hour or so.

The Icelandic Saltfish Museum

Went here out of interest - it is a rather odd looking building, rather spaceship-like. From the roof you get great views of Reykjavik and the sculpture outside is fun to take photos with. Inside there is a few pieces of artwork, but it's mainly a revolving cafe. Never experienced the cafe but it looked lovely. Nice additional walk when visiting the area but wouldn't visit specifically for this 'museum'.
