The 10 Best Things to do in Grand Isle, Louisiana (LA)

October 12, 2021 Kelli Reichel

Louisiana natives treasure a day at the beach on the barrier island known as Grand Isle, just a short drive from the city. Known for its great fishing spots and even deep-sea fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, at the Grand Isle State Park you can camp or just spend the day picnicking. This tiny sea-side town hosts the Cajun Rodeo, which draws 15 times its normal population annually. Besides fishing, Grand Isle is also known for its birding trails which consists of nearly 60 acres of marsh and Chenier forest habitat and the hosting of The Grand Isle Migratory Bird Festival – an annual three-day event.

I don't even want to write a review so it stays remote and quiet. Great pier for fishing and watching dolphins play, shrimp boats, and huge birds. The wreckage of a shrimp boat is sad but quite beautiful. Nice beach with shells for a stroll. Just love coming back. Two hour drive from NOLA and it's a beauty - the homes, water, and long bridge!

We stopped in to have a drink and decided to have dinner - and we are so glad we did! I enjoyed an amazing soft shell crab dinner - some of the best I’ve ever eaten. My boyfriend enjoyed some fried shrimp. This is a comfortable local bar with pretty much just seating at the bar - so not a place for a dinner with children.
