Very nice picnic area Very cool trail- take the left trail, go down the stairs after taking the view from the platform. Walk by the stream in the cool and peaceful canyon. Read the educational sign. We took the look back to the parking lot. It was a nice hike, our favorite in the Forest

Based on other reviews, we wanted to check this place out. It was something to do on a rainy day. They have the cutest chocolate sets and we enjoyed ice cream in waffle cones. You’ll want to stop by as the employees are the greatest! They helped us with ideas for our next stop. Thanks!

I visited this park during a road trip a few months ago. I wanted a place to stop, stretch my legs, and enjoy nature in, and Dixon Springs State Park delivered. The park is situated in Illinois's Shawnee Hills and sits on top of a massive block of rock from which springs flow. It was a popular health spa in the 19th century complete with a bathhouse and resort. Some of the buildings from this era still remain standing in the park. I spent about an hour and a half in the park hiking the hills and enjoying the forest scenery and historic buildings. I can't speak to the park's other amenities, but I had an excellent time and would happily return.
