Shining Sea Bikeway

Reviewed By MingO_11 - Boston, United States

This is arguably the most scenic bike trail in Cape Cod. It has almost everything Cape Cod bike trails have to offer: the marsh, the cranberry bog, picturesque cape towns, and of course the shining sea. A few tips: Near the Woods Hole terminus of the trail, there is a very good bakery called Pie in the Sky, which is a good stop to refuel. Also from there, the Nobska lighthouse is close by (~1 mile away), which also worth a side trip.

Took the ferry from Woods Hole to Martha’s Vineyard and back. Simple process- took the shuttle from a Falmouth parking lot on the way out and returned with relatives who took their vehicle to the island and got to experience the efficient de-boarding process in a car. The trip out was rainy so we rode inside and the trip home was very cold and windy but sunny so we spent some inside and some outside. Really smooth ride despite the conditions both days.

Highfield Hall & Gardens

Highfield Hall & Gardens, a five-star rated destination, is a magnificent Victorian mansion with beautiful gardens in the heart of Falmouth. While there's plenty of history within its glorious old walls, Highfield is now a vibrant cultural center offering international contemporary art exhibitions, music performances, culinary classes, family programs, and educational opportunities. The mansion is surrounded by nearly 400 acres of public conservation land and walking trails. As a "must see" on Cape Cod, plan to spend an hour or a day at this family-friendly estate. Closed on Monday excepts holidays.

We started our visit by looking at the exhibits throughout the 17,800 square foot mansion which is situated on 700 acres high on a hill. There were numerous examples of contemporary rope art by 20 artists. One room was dedicated to the history of the mansion. We found this very interesting previously we knew nothing about the mansion. At one time twenty servants from around the world worked here. Outside, we toured the various gardens and marveled at the gigantic beech trees. We have never seen such large and healthy beech trees. They are different kinds of beech trees and they are just so beautiful. So glad we took the time to visit here.

Woods Hole Science Aquarium

This aquarium offers visitors the chance to watch the seals being fed.

We were pleased that during our off-season trip to the Cape the Woods Hole aquarium was open. There is only metered street parking. Meters take quarters (25 cents for 15 minutes and I think there was also a credit card option. There are several tanks on the main level and upstairs you can see the tanks from above. There is also a small touch tank. There were no seals in residence while we were there. It took us about an hour to walk thru all the exhibits.

Nice place to visit on any day! Cute place but you might drive right by it. Good parking, lots of O/D seating. Pizza oven on site, along with other foods to purchase with your wine flights. Flights are 4 x 4 oz. plus they have wine slushy's! Good deal on cheese/crackers....Cabot cheese pre-sliced and and crackers enough to comfortably feed a family of four. The wine drinkers in the family give the wine a thumbs up!
