The paddocks had no shelters and they keep them locked, which would be unsafe for the horses in an emergency. For those reasons, I decided not to board my horses there.

We love visiting the hatchery. The hatchery offers a free toddler story and craft time during the cooler months (too hot in summer). We love watching the fish jumping up the ladder during salmon season. It is so wonderful to have a great educational place for the family to come and learn about nature.

Sacramento Children's Museum

Sacramento Children's Museum's opened our doors in 2011 with a mission is to spark a passion for life-long learning. We are accomplishing our mission by providing a place where children are encouraged to think for themselves, expand their problem-solving abilities through creative exploration, and exercise both their bodies and their minds. The Museum's hands-on environments provide children with a gateway for opening up their minds to developing new abilities, building confidence, and making connections between their dreams and real world experiences.

The museum is small but highly interactive for the space. Best for ages 3-9 with the middle of that range being the best target for the activities. It has been awhile since I visited but when we went they had a wall of vacuum tubes that was very engaging for the older end, a glass wall in the art room where artist could put on a smock and decorate, then a squeegee would wipe it all down so they could paint another masterpiece! There was a water play area, a "supermarket" and "Home" for interactive play and other activities. It is a local gem.

American River Raft Rentals

Reviewed By Adam C

Came here with my family over the weekend. We reserved a 6 person raft. It was smaller than I expected but we had only 5 people and one was a child so we had enough space.
The price was very reasonable. ~$120 for the whole thing, including shuttle tickets.

The check in process was efficient. We had to carry the raft from the rental down to the river, which was about a 5 - 10 min. walk. Getting it in the water was easy. Once we got down stream, the check out process was also straight forward.

Parking was a bit confusing at first as there wasn't a clear sign of entrance. Also, the bathroom situation wasn't great. But it is an outdoorsy place, so that's understandable.

I have attended and/or officiated (through my work for a hospice) at many services at Mt Vernon, and find the staff there to be very helpful, accommodating, and appropriate to the circumstances. The Garden of Peace burial area for cremated remains is actually a pretty and peaceful spot for a service (they will set up chairs and shade tents) or visiting (trees and plantings all around). The large and small chapel areas are also quite nice, and much better than many other comparable local places. I've heard that their services are not inexpensive, but cannot speak to specifics. I would recommend it to families who are able to afford what they offer.

The Sac State Aquatic Center is a great place to visit. One can rent waterboards, kayaks, etc.. The cool water feels especially refreshing on a hot Sacramento day. Life jackets are provided, which is all one really needs (besides a water bottle!). The bathrooms were maintained, which is always appreciated. I only wish there was more of a sandy area in which to let kids play and park a chair. However, most kids have fun and don't even notice!

This mall has been an institution in Sacramento since it was built many years ago. Once one of the largest malls in the country, it has suffered from the competition from Arden Fair Sacramento, and Galleria Mall and Fountains in Roseville. The large Macy's store is now closed on the Greenback north side of the mall, it will be interesting to see what happens to that large space.
