Philip Foster Farm

Philip Foster's Farm was a welcome sight to travelers on the Barlow Road, finally reaching civilization after 6 months on the Oregon Trail. Today it connects visitors to that era and the many families whose lives were changed by emigration to Oregon, through original and reproduction buildings and hands-on activities for all ages.

Wonderful preserved house and farm from pioneer days. This was the rest stop for people coming across the Oregon Trail before they journeyed a little father to Oregon City. An original wagon from the Trail, all sorts of kitchen wares, furniture, beds, farm equipment, and much, much more. This is a real step back in time.

Blue Sky Whitewater Rafting

Reviewed By hungarianhc - San Francisco, California

We had a fantastic outing this past Friday. We did a rafting trip with ten guys, and everything about the experience was pretty awesome. They make you a lunch about halfway down the trip, and it was way better than I expected: steaks, chicken, garlic bread, fresh fruit, a whole bunch of other things, and oreo cookies. Appealing to the fat kid in us all with oreos was a clutch move, and it was indeed appreciated.

Our guides were really fun, and they found little things for us to do along the way like surfing rocks or jumping off a 30 foot ledge, for those who were interested.

The rapids were pretty calm, I think because it's late in the year, but it provided for a really relaxing, great day down the river!

Parking lot is small but when we came here on a Monday morning at 10ish, we had it all to ourselves. There is a free telescope so you can see a lot. Mid-day will prob be the best time to stop here. There are other better views so if you're pressed for time, skip this one. The view is pretty nonetheless.

Our family of 4 went on a full-day raft trip on the Clackamas River on June 6, 2017. We have been on a few trips before but this one exceeded all others. We spent the entire day on the river without seeing another raft or other people, so we really felt like it was a unique experience being out in nature on our own. The river was a blend of white water with some calm areas in between. Thrilling ride throughout the day with plenty of action. Met at 9:30am and we were off the river around 2:30pm. Tabah was our river guide and he was excellent at maneuvering each rapid. Jessica was our driver, photographer, and helped set up lunch. She was wonderful as well and they both worked well as a team. It was a great day with medium water flows so water definitely moved quickly as we floated down the river. Would highly recommend ORE as they were professional and exceeded all of our expectations.

Bagby Hot Springs

So as people have mentioned before its kinda hard to find but just go to the Bagby site and snap a screenshot of the directions so you can make the right turns. The hike there is easy and very beautiful! We were there on a Thursday and only a handful of others were there. 5 private tubs but a few didn't cork well so maybe three were functional. You can be nude only in the private stalls which still really aren't that enclosed if you are concerned with others seeing you. 3 community tubs as well. The water comes out very hot so bring a bucket of cold water up to your private stall ahead of time so your soak isn't interrupted. All in all a great experience! Also there was some who were smoking marijuana so be aware this happens in case children are there. Alcohol and smoking are supposedly not allowed but just know it might happen.

NW Sturgeon Adventures

You'll never regret this one. Booked a half day fishing trip (4hrs) in Portland, Oregon. Our guide Charlie Foster showed up in a covered, heated, 4 passenger boat...fishing LUXURY....warm and could stretch our legs. There were other guides out there with their open boats seating up to 8 where you can't walk around.
Charlie is an easy-going, friendly, knowledgable guide. He grew up fishing along the Columbia River and knew "every nook, cranny, and rock." Within minutes of dropping anchor, my 8 yr old catches the first sturgeon of the day and the first of his life. Time flew by too quickly. The exhiliration was in hooking and reeling in all those sturgeons as well as enjoying Charlie's great stories. You sure can tell he sure loves kids!
Charlie does provide the necessary fishing license on board and his rates are VERY reasonable for what you get. In comparison, the other places I looked into were more expensive and you had to sit all day in an open boat. All you have to bring is a camera and snacks/drinks ( if you want.).
We're already planning from Canada a full day trip with NW Sturgeon Adventures and Charlie!

I first went to Dream Ridge three years ago for a birthday party and then again with my children recently. On both visits I was beyond impressed with the attention to safety, quality instruction, and really intuitive support from Karen and the staff at Dream Ridge. High caliber horses are used for instruction, the entire environment indoor and out is impeccable. Plus Karen takes time to answer questions, and treats even the most novice rider (me!) and most ridiculous questions with respect and compassion! The best deal in town -- the best horses -- the best instructor. It is a dream! And the birthday parties are FAR superior others in the PDX area.

Austin is on private property - no trspassing signs are posted in the trees, if you bother to look.
The owners have done little to stop the world from using the property as a toilet. Broken glass can be found in the springs, and a large selection of human waste products suround the spings - I should know, I clean the place up now and again.
Try Bagby for a good soak. They have outhouses.

Wentzel Farm Fantasy Trail

A wonderful use of a farm in the off season, this one delights with a welcoming hut selling hot chocolate and outstanding gingerbread men. The trails are colorfully lit and a variety of beautiful old figures blends with the more modern ones to create a wonderful place to walk and experience the true Christmas. The kids (even the older ones) loved the slide and tunnel connectors and the adults reminisced and sat to listen to the Donkey story. Well worth the admission price. *Warning: This location is way out in the hills and the curved roads can be a bit slippery and without shoulders, so drive carefully and slower on foggy or rainy nights.

This was a great find. 40 minutes south east of Portland and nearby to Mt. Hood area. Is this lovely State park. It was very spread out and made it feel you had plenty of space between you and the rest of the campers. Highly recommended for RV camping. They have very clean Restrooms and easy sites to pull into.
