This place is amazing. I have a 13 year old grandson that absolutely loves it. When ever i am in Elk Grove visiting it has become our special thing to do. We've been going there for several years now. He is a very active boy and this gives him an outlet for some of his excess energy and gets him off the video games. It's fun for beginners and advanced surfers. And of course he loves to show off for my camera.

We went to a wedding at Brave Horse Winery. This is a superb place to have an event. There is the nice lawn area for the ceremony, an area for dancing, as well as a nice lawn area with shade trees for the reception. Its a beautiful place.

The winery also has horses and a pig there.

Their cabernet sauvignon is very nice and my personal favorite for this winery. They have other wines as well.

Very convenient for a short trip from Sacramento. Bogle wines are one of the best deals that can be had, with reasonable prices and consistently good quality. The winery reinforces the no-nonsense commitment to quality work; i liked the tasting room, and the grounds are tasteful and welcoming. Recommended.

California State Capitol Museum

This 19th-century granite building, modeled after the U.S. Capitol, is home to the California Legislature and houses a public museum and a surrounding garden. We are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Reviewed By janel m - Madison, Wisconsin

On our recent visit to Sacramento, we were rather impressed by the California State Capitol building and grounds. We didn't opt for the guided tour; instead we followed the map and guide we got at the information desk. We thoroughly enjoyed peering into the rooms in the "museum" in the basement that re-created the offices circa the 1800s and early 1900s. We were fortunate to be able to catch the transportation-themed temporary exhibit -- though we aren't Californians, we enjoyed tracing the history of the automobile and highways in California. Unfortunately, we visited on a Saturday and the legislature was not in session and not all areas in the building were accessible. Nevertheless, the capitol building is worth the stop. Remember to catch all the portraits of all the governors throughout the building. The state capitol has no admission fee, but be prepared to enter through metal detectors.

This trail had been a shorter trail on my previous visits to Elk Grove but a bridge over Highway 99 opened up and the trail is now longer since it crosses the highway. There are plans to make the trail even longer and connect it to some other trails. I saw people walking, biking, and skateboarding on the trail when I did my morning walks this past week.

Miner's Leap Winery

Reviewed By RunningInGrace - Sacramento, California

My husband, friend, and I stopped by this winery after the annual Clarksburg Country Run nearby to "rehydrate" and swap running stories after the race and it was a perfect place to do so. The location off of South River Road/Sacramento River couldn't be more scenic and appears to be a bustling hub anytime you drive by and take a look. Makes you want to stop in, almost compelled to join in with the excitement. The large patio area provides a nice setting to purchase some wine and sit down and actually enjoy the venue for more than tasting along with the company you came with. Very nicely landscaped. The wine tasting bar is atypically outside facing the patio, interactive with guests. There is pleasant music. Now, for my taste, the wines go a little too dry and it would be nice to see more variety for other palates, but the wine was fine. Frankly, when we come back, it will be for the way it makes are souls feel which is most relaxed and serene. So close to the city yet a century from the grind.

Not sure who added this but I've stayed at the Holiday Inn Express that is next to this about 5 times over the past 3 years and it's your basic strip mall. There isn't anything bad about it but there also isn't anything great about it. Blindfold somebody and take them here and they wouldn't know exactly where they were. If you need something by all means buy it here but don't expect anything special.
